I've been offered a 300mins xnet, 3000text and unrestricted internet (no fair use) sim only deal for £10 a month and wondered what others thought about HSDPA coverage, voice reception etc? I travel around quite a bit and use satnav so good 3G coverage is important. I am on Vodafone at the moment but the contract expires in 8 weeks and I plan on going sim free.

If there isn't decent HSDPA/HDSPA+ coverage then I'm not really interested.

Cheers!

Edit*
Reason being, 3 just called me asking if I wanted to hear out some deals, I asked various technical questions and the guy has gone away and will call back in an hour as I'm "busy" in a meeting (read: doing research about 3 coverage and quality) :p

I have but their coverage map is crap, it doesn't state what speed of coverage is on offer, just "indoor and outdoor".

I want to know what HSDPA/+ coverage is like, for example!

Yes, Three are generally very good but as always it depends on your coverage.

Get a free SIM and test it out where you live. They're generally the best when it comes to data speeds etc.

The free sim won't allow me to test out HSDPA though will it without incurring charges :(

Faff :(

I'll probably just stick to Vodafone, it just works wherever I go and I will likely be on Vodafone in another 12 years time!

Maybe ask them if you can try it out for a few days because you've always used Vodafone? If it's no good then send it back.

I get HSDPA/HSDPA+ pretty much where ever I am on three. On the odd occasion it drops down to 3g but that's not really an issue .

heres a quick speed test done in the unit at work.

Can't say I've had any problems with Three, I have only been with them since the start of my SGS2 contract though May last year. Service is generally good here in Telford with H+ in most places.

Usual kind of speeds:

Varies through the day from lower to higher.

Should add also that I've found it drops to Orange if there is no three network.

I recently jumped onto the fair ship 3, from T-mobile, on a 12-month sim-only package. Tried a PAYG SIM first, to put my mind at rest - based on concerns over coverage etc. - and have found it excellent. Speeds are consistenly high (hardly ever see below 3000kbps download, 1500kbps upload) for data and had no issues with voice traffic - very pleased !
£10/month sounds like a great deal - I went on SIM600 for 600 mins, 3000texts and 1GB data (could've gone unlimited for a little more) @ £12/month on 12-month contract, with TopCashback of £83.83 taking the overall cost down to circa. £5 month for the year. This means I can ditch it cheaply if needs be, but I cannot see this becoming necessary :)

That's rather good actually thanks!

I've just got a call back from them and signed up :)

They have 14day money back so for a day or two I will try finding someone with a 3 sim and see how that goes but I'm sure it will be fine anyway though.

I actually jigged it about a bit and ended up with:

£10/month (inc VAT)
300 xnet minutes
3000 texts
1GB Internet
£15 credit onto the account
12 months term

I think that's a rather good deal and as my Vodafone contract is up starting April, if the 3 network doesn't live up to the hype then I can drop my Vodafone to sim only on the lowest tariff and run both sims and still make a saving on my current monthly outgoings with Vodafone which is £31 a month!! (I will never buy a 24month contract again, sim free all the way).

Kind of a no brainer :D

A free three payg sim can accumulate minus £5/£10 credit or something similar, I got a days free data use checking coverage last year.

Edit: nvm :p

Generally speaking, for 3G signal they have the best signal of any provider I have tried, including Virgin Mobile, Orange and Tmobile. For 2G signal their coverage isn't quite as broad but still adequate for most areas. Like any other network they have dead spots. Overall I have been very satisfied with them personally.

To add my say, earlier in the year i travelled from Birmingham, up the M6 to Liverpool, back down the M6 to Birmingham and then down the M5 to Bristol, back to Birmingham shortly after and had 7+ Mb/s constantly. Was good enough to stream music the entire way via Spotify and have someone with an iPad tethered in the back watching iPlayer content without issues.

Good things all round then, looking forward to it now have to say :D

Should have gone through quidco and got the £54.55 cashback making it £5.50 a month

Why do I always see these things after making a purchase!
