30/11 Strikes.

I know at least one school that allocates DTA for PE Teachers activites outside of school and according to the STPCD 2011 any activities as specified by the Head teacher must count toward DTA and additional payments are available for this if not within the DTA.

If I were your Wife, I would get hold of her Union Rep and ask to see the latest STCPD so that she can see whether she is entitled to extra payments for running such activities or whether they are part of her DTA.

I will ask her later, perhaps some extra income she didnt realise she was entitled to.

They go into it knowing how much they will get paid, how much they will pay into their pension and when they will retire. Or at least they used to.

Guess what: I know how much I pay into my pension, and won't know how much I'll get at retirement age, other than various projections which, again, guess what; will increase or decrease with market fluctuations.

I would hope that the people teaching our kids would have the sense to realise that sometimes these things change and that as people are living longer then pensions are going to get more expensive. Where do you think the money for the increase cost of pension provision should come from? What taxes would you like to see raised, what budgets would you like to see cut and why do you think teachers are worth spending the extra money on?

Teachers do get paid a good salary for their contracted hours, however most of the teachers at my little boys school also put in a lot more hours before and after their normal working day.

My mam is a cleaner at the school and she said that some of the teachers are there as early as 6:30am to monitor breakfast club and as late as 5:30pm when film club is on and they dont get paid extra.

A friend of ours is a teaching assistant and she said that the teacher she works with can easily work 60-70 hours in a week.

Teachers and nurses are the 2 jobs where i personally feel they do not get paid enough for the valuable service they provide.

People who get a kick out of what they do and enjoy work,
Wanting to make a reputation and get to the top of their profession
Gain respect through hard work (and play)

- not mugs

People who drift along doing the bare minimum contracted work.

Can't see the problem in unpaid overtime, I hapilly stay 30 mins or so longer if needed to finish off something like server restarts/upgrades etc. On topic, I'm not officially on strike tomorrow, my work place is closed but I am obligated to be 'available for work'

Depends if you think of what you're doing as work. If you don't then you clearly enjoy it, in which case anything else you're doing is unlikely to be more valuable.

So it should have been...enjoy your day off...:)

I will have a go. Perhaps a cheeky Darjeeling and a scone. Thanks. :)

Police rest days can be cancelled like confetti for what it's worth and normal working time directives go out the window when the job demands and to the point where Brendan Barber would cack his pants.
