30/11 Strikes.

Yeah, people with nice cars should all go on strike. Let's see how fast we all get sacked because you can't behave like that when it comes to the real world, the public sector just want something for nothing - as usual.

I've been on strike three times whilst working in the private sector - not been sacked yet :p

That depends what way public opinion turns doesn't it? I.e. will the public get angry at the strikers for not accepting a deal or do they get angry at the government for not offering a and acceptable deal?

It's all a gamble - both sides know the risks - in some ways it's a do or die approach by both parties.

The public will get sick of the strikes first.

The strikes is in the hands of the people on strike, no one point the gun at their heads and force them to walk on streets with banners, they vote to do that.

People don't think that deep, they will get sick of having their kids at home and have to take a day off and the first person in line is their teacher on strike.

Time will tell :-)

It's all a mute point anyhow as the government are shifting significantly today, hour by hour. There'll be a deal by the end of next week.

Why should wealthy people like yourself begrudge those poorer than themselves, i find it absolutely disgusting

Why should people band together and effectively blackmail the government because they're lazy and want something for nothing?

Time will tell :-)

Pretty much everyone I know is of the opinion that the people striking are a load of, well, rude words. They will be turned on before long, especially as a lot of the people being asked to strike don't even want to strike.

The fact that most people in the unions chose not to take part in the vote on striking and that not every teacher etc went on strike shows weakness in their argument against the Government.

The public can see this and their support will be behind the Governments changes.

I have not spoken to anyone i know that supports the strikes.

Is the definition of gold plated not something worthless tarted up pretending to be something of a higher value?

If I gave my wife gold plated earings I'd see first hand the sterling work paramedics and NHS staff do!

He means gilt edged i.e. government backed and traditionally extremely secure.

Sheeesh, put a sock in it. Your argument boils down to because they have nice cars they don't care? Perhaps they worked hard, used their skills effectively, moved with the times and got their finances in check. It isn't some big conspirarcy theory. Not all Conservatives are rich and driving around in fancy cars (I can guarentee you that my crap job doesn't allow me to do that). However, we have an ideological view and we think that it is the best way out of this mess. Supporters, myself included, have spoke at length about our views and given our justification for it. You are just spouting utter nonsense rather than delivering any decent points.

I also resent being called a fool, boardering on a personal insult there.

Also, just because people don't support the strikers does not mean that they are a Conservative.

Isn't the definition of Insanity doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result?

LOL the poor asking for public sector cuts, I have seen it all now :D

Are you one of those people that thinks you should get something for nothing?

No, I think everyone is entilted to a fair days pay for a fair days work.

Unless you think on call rates being frozen for 10 years or a pay freeze when company profits are up 14% to $2.4bn is a reasonable course of action for an employer.

Bloody hell groen - you're turing into a right little Hitler aren't you?
Purely the polar opposite on the spectrum to your militant socialism. Both are fairly distasteful.
Time will tell :-)

Time has already told. The majority are sick of the behaviour of the unions.

Whether they've managed to blackmail the government into backing down or not is moot. The unions cheap political scoring will not endear them to the public. But I guess I'm naieve in thinking that it matters; that the unions care. Well I guess it doesn't; and I guess they don't. The unions don't give a damn about the country, nor the public at large, so why would they care what the public thinks about them? I wonder what the next thing will be that causes them to throw their toys out of the pram and blackmail the government into getting their own way.

Or perhaps he just understands the way the world works and is going to better himself financially to avoid being 'poor' in future?

He could just take the easy way out and have a fit about it like a baby, but that would be lazy. I respect him (and all the other sensible people) for not doing so.

Public sector workers get fair pay, decent working conditions and more than generous pension, so whay are you backing the strikes if you belive in a 'fair' deal?
