A couple of points, firstly we have a coalition of two parties that between them, commanded approx 60% of the vote.

Secondly the conservatives got a greater proportion of the vote than Blair did in 2005, and Labour got a worse share of the vote than Major did in 1997, but due to gerrymandered constituencies, the Conservatives require about 8% greater vote compared to Labour to gain a parliamentary majority.

Was the labour government of 2005 unelected due to getting a lower percentage of the vote than the Tories did this time around?

It is a completely accurate reflection of the election. Perhaps you are forgetting that we do not elect governments - we elect representatives of our constituencies who go on to form a government.

They were not elected outright due to stupid and outdated methods, that map is clearly over 50% blue, so by logic would indicate they have more say.

Im not effected by this strike as im not at uni on wednesday, instead i have a nice 6 hour shift to enjoy where people will end up buying things making me earn a decent wage

Gambling on the schoold being open or not is stupid imo.

Nonsense, the school informed us of it's alternative arrangements last week, which meant many people who could have, or did make arrangements did not do so, changed them due to what they were told....(and repeated on Friday)

This afternoon that has changed, because more staff, who were presumably intending on attending on wednesday have subsequently decided otherwise.

Don't presume people are stupid because they are following instructions given them by the institutions involved, it is not unreasonable to expect the individual to give reasonable notice of their intentions.

This is the difference between illiciting public support or not, and unreasonable behaviour does not persuade me as to their overall intentions....it increasingly seems that the objective is to be as awkward and disruptive as possible and this is becoming less about contracts and more about politics.....

If you pay tax and more importantly if you will be paying tax for 20 years or more from now, you should be glad that action is being taken now to revise pensions.

It is your money that will be used to pay for them.

You also have to add the proposed flat rate state pension which will enhance the benefits for anyone with a contributory pension scheme.

It doesn't take a genius to work out the vast majority of schools will be closed and make appropriate arrangements.

The school informed him that it would be open what is so hard to understand about that. It doesn't take a genius to work out the vast majority of politicians will not give you what they promise when it comes to public pensions and make alternative arrangements!

Good, so you're happy that the link to earnings was introduced by Barbara Castle as a cost saving measure because earnings increases were lower than inflation at the time.

incidentally, you do realise it has been the coalition, via the Triple lock, not Labour, who restored the earnings link?

The point is, this current bunch of incapable fools is wrecking the economy even faster than Thatcher and her ilk... The next couple of years are going to get far worse and I can't see the situation improving untill radical and immediate reforms take place within our financial sector

PR wouldn't have changed the makeup of government unless you're advocating that the Lib Dems ignore the will of the public and make a coalition of losers, against what they promised prior to the election?

If I relied only on my employer for my pension instead of taking some personal responsibility then I would be stupid...but hey ho I must be both stupid and incompetent at my job because I trusted people in authority at their word.....

That would be the financial sector ruined by Labour's terrible regulatory changes, which led to consequences in turn made worse by Labour's fiscally incontinent public spending spending?

The intention to strike was not announced till last minute as possible, to cause as much disruption as possible.

My grandmother goes into hospital tomorrow for a tumour removal and at least one week's worth of recovery treatment that she's been waiting for for months.

Apparently some nurses/surgeons/etc. will be striking tomorrow.

Lobby your MP for a change in the law then because currently, whilst an employer can ask if you intend to participate in industrial actions, you are under no obligation to answer.
