30-70 thread

Just had a bash at this in my turbo nova, using 3rd and 4th @ 7 psi, 6 seconds. 12 psi just over 4 seconds, again in 3rd and 4th. Im reluctant to rev it too hard plus i think 70 is too much for 3rd so it'd still be quicker than changing 2nd to 3rd to 4th......... or maybe not i dont know, i'll have to have another go at 18psi.

Change closer to the redline, Jebus you changed early :p

I would but it feels like all the power drops off just after that, only let it get so high in 3rd as the car doesnt really accelerate in 4th, and i didnt have a choice of an SDi as i got the car for free :D .

Would stick an intercooler on it if i could find one dead cheap as pulling out of junctions is a nightmare!

Gonna go give the Capri a go tomorrow if the weather holds out.

Tried it with my diesel barge yesterday for a laugh. No vid, just timing it on phone stopwatch and reckon it's somewhere between 7.5 and 8 seconds.

Hi there

Well just had to give the CSL a go! :D

Did it in 2nd and required a change upto 3rd. DSC was left on so gear change was at speed setting 5. Its possible taking DSC off and putting gear change speed upto might marginally improve the time possibly.

Using the online stop watch I am getting that to be about 3.8s which I am extremely happy with. Plus as I am sure you can hear it sounds amazing. :D

Can't comment if the speedo is accurate or not as not had any GPS in the car, being far too busy hooning it around country roads, its so quick! :D

I'm not going to even try 30-70. I once tried 50-70 in 3rd in my Primera 1.6 and timed it at 7.4 with stopwatch. :o

Have we had any standard LCR times yet? I've missed a few pages !

Anyway, with my standard 225 LCR did a quick and dirty timing with the stopwatch on two separate runs.

1st: 5.35 secs
2nd: 5.72 secs.

That was from an indicated 30 to an indicated 70 using 2nd and 3rd gears (good swift gear change each time)

EDIT: Forgot to mention that if I tried it in 3rd only, it took approx 8.5 seconds as in 3rd at 30 the turbo is noticebly OFF boost !

Now go back out and time 30-70 and not 33-65.

Near where I live is one of those radar speed detectors. At an indicated 30 on the speedo it flashes up as 28 mph. Another on the outskirts of Cov, reads the same thing for my indicated 30. If anything therefore I would think my 30 is LOW and certainly not a true 33 !!!

No idea about the 70 tbh. But if the 30 is low I would assume the 70 is too don't ya think?

Those speed things are not calibrated.

To test the calibration of your speedo, use a portable Satnav unit, and measure your speed on a flat peice of road at a constant speed.

Really? Aren't they meant to be calibrated reasonably regularly?.

I am planning on buying a sat nav unit at some stage soon. When I do I'll try again.

For the sake of argument therefore approx 6 seconds would be plausible for the LCR? Agreed?

I find the only easy way to keep a constant (as in really constant) speed (on the motorway) is to use cruise control, it's quite amazing how steady it keeps the speed according to my sat nav, it only fluctuates by about .2 of a MPH (and my car is doing about 68mph at a speedo-read 70 which I think is quite good) :) One day I'll record 30-70 on my phone and time it somehow when I get home ;)

Oh and I will of course count in my head whilst accelerating and post the figure, just to keep Fox happy :D

That car must be fast, it says "Country: United States" ! :D

Sounds wonderful mate.

Just went out to take a DVD back to Blockbuster and thought I'd have a go at this on the way back :)

~4.0 seconds - I did 2 runs staying in 2nd and got 3.97 and 4.04 then tried a run changing to 3rd as my turbo is running out of puff over about 60 in 2nd - it covers the last 10mph a lot faster but the gearchange cancels out any benefit - got 4.06 seconds.

Tried a run in 3rd and it was just over 6 seconds as 30mph is well off boost in 3rd.

S13 200SX BTW, some breathing mods :) Haven't got a camcorder sorry :o
