Due to a plethora of reasons. Primarily ill health I haven’t been able to change my original order for a 3080. Speaking to Overclockers today it seems my two best options are a straight swap to a different 3080 for a £60ish refund or upgrade to a 3090 for retail cost so about 440 more.

Is the 3090 worth it?

I have an a ryzen 9 3900 xt and a Samsung Odyssey g9 monitor so 1440p Super Ultrawide at up to 240mhz

Get a refund and wait a couple of months for the next-gen (or at least some more solid news about them). You've waited this long, don't bother with soon-to-be old tech imo.
I had thought of that but a few issues pertain. One I’m now out of hospital so have access to my PC again and secondly as I understand it 4000 series likely to be early next year only and at that likely to be 4090 and potentially in immediately short supply

I'd say depending on use case, probably not. If it's definitely one of those options, and just for gaming (discounting huge levels of mods loaded at once) take the 3080.

Get the 3080, gives you access to RTX, DLSS, etc.

Surely it's the 6800XT at £650 that should be in the mix here - much better value than the 6950XT ? Or at least the 6900XT at £790 ? 6950XT seems pretty bad value for money

3090 better than the 6950xt? depends on the game and resolution from what ive seen. Think the 3090 is still alittle more expensive depending where you are buying it from ofcourse.
Well I’m buying from here as OC have had my money since 2020. Strangely they are still offering discounts on 3080’s for those in my position but don’t offer discounts on 3090’s

Possibly but don’t call me surely. I’m inclined to stay away from Team Red due to a strange issue I have with a 5600 that prevents me from playing CS:GO

At this point I'd probably wait for next gen or pick up a 3060ti FE the next time next time they drop then upgrade to 4000 series.

3080 12GB Take your pick from £750 . https://www.overclockers.co.uk/grap...s/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080-12gb?sort=price_asc

best value update right now for nvidia in your position.

the one i would get is this one as it has higher clock boost speeds than the oc version trinity and a better cooler and 5 year warranty :- https://www.overclockers.co.uk/zota...dr6x-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-137-zt.html

Zotac GeForce RTX 3080 AMP HOLO LHR 12GB GDDR6X £789

It’s case by case for each person.

You can’t say hold for everyone. The person is out of hospital and has access to his PC, which means gaming time! Go for the 3080, the extra cash for the 3090 is not worth it.

If you wait… god knows how long you will wait, Dec 2022? Sometime in 2023? Can you even order one? Such a long time of uncertainty with a gaming PC sitting right next to you with no decent GPU.

So go on and have fun with the 3080!

This late in the cylce i'd say get the 3080, or downgrade to something much cheaper to tide you over until that big 4080/90 comes out you want, sell the cheaper one and get in early on the new generation.

Sorry, I didn't mean consider it instead of 3080, I meant consider it instead of 6950xt. If a game you play a lot has problems on Radeon, then sure, I'll echo those saying 3080, not 3090.
3080 12GB price seems decent if you fancy a bit more VRAM, could be a sweet spot ?
