30xx Series Founders Edition

It might be announced next month but there certainly won't be any stop of it for months!!

Oh yeah I know it's to be announced but rIck is gonna send back his 3090 thinking there's gonna be stock. DOn't think you'll see a ti until APril / May what with a full national lockdown looming.

My 3090FE just arrived, and getting a little jitttery now with the 3080 Ti due soon and wondering if I just return it.

Well no one knows when the 3080Ti will arrive. Similarly performance wise it will be on par or slightly behind the 3090, I would not expect it to be ahead if we apply some logic in any meaningful way. It will not be the full fat GA102 core which the 3090 already pretty much is (bar last 2% of CUDA cores), so it will be at 3090 performance levels or slightly cut a fraction. Clock speed wise all moot with way cards boost and its not going to be on TSMC's new node if its out within next few months. No it will just be using 3090 cores which have stopped selling due to most who are willing to splash the cash having the 3090 so left with spare cores, rather then put them into a 3090 which is not selling, or cut them to go into a 3080, Makes sense to repurpose it as a 3080Ti with price cut.

Next bit though is supply, you can bet 3080Ti at say £999 / £949 will be in high demand anyways even if its a 3090 slimmed down with sligh memory cut. AIB models will creep close to the 3090FE price anyways so you will need to be lightning quick to get a 3080Ti FE model which is only one I expect which will save you decent dosh which your unlikely to get. Realistically if the 3080Ti came out in Feb, your likely looking at April / May until you can get one. So the £400 premium you pay for the 3090 works out to be less then £100 a month by the time you do get s 3080Ti.

My two cents just keep the 3090 unless you can really do with the cash in your pocket for whatever reason.

The 3080 is a seriously well made piece of kit. Hopefully this is the blueprint for how cards look and feel moving forward.

Shame others are having to pay more for less or wait months on end given how its mostly luck getting one of these.

Yeah I have to admit the 3070 that just arrived is a beautifully made piece of hardware - by far the most visually pleasing air cooled GPU I've owned. They really did step the FE design standards up a notch.

I've got my 3070 FE! and its been in the back of a really cold DPD van and I'm warming it up to avoid condensation build up before putting her in :) err thats sounds weird

Lol I had done that too as condensation was bad. Couple hours in the warm room before it got prepped and installed.

I blasted my dehumidifier on it, all good now. It's in and working, using DDU between cards. Snug fit in my ITX build but I think I have room for a 2.2 slot cooler so its fine, right next to my Seasonic fanless PSU grill. It's really nice well built solid metal card. The power cable isn't too bad, I just had to tuck it down a bit so out of the way of fans. Will need to play around with fan curves again. Very happy! :)

You'll have more success playing with the voltage first as you can drop about 50-100W from the power draw without affecting performance

and I thought the ASUS 3080 blower was bad WTH is that ! First time as far back as I can remember the FE's are a thing of beauty and the AIB's are a Baboons back side.

Those FE cards really do look well made ......then MSI make this thing :D

You still flying or having a 'pandemic break'?
Looks oddly similar to a reference GTX 480.
