30xx Series Founders Edition

I think we need to await reviews and AIB pricing before drawing any conclusions for the 3080 and 3070.

No gamers should have bought the 3090 either way, even more so now.

I think the memory alone renders the 3070 DOA, and I held that view before AMD's event today.

The 3080 might actually outperform the 6800XT so I agree it's too early to say. And similarly with the 3090 I agree, no-one should be considering purchasing a 3090 unless there's a niche use scenario and again it wasn't AMD that prompted my opinion.

One thing I can say for sure about the comparison between red and green is that AMD have not impressed with the reliance on peripheral hardware to get the best from their GPUs; I'll buy Ryzen if I want to not, because you've marketed me into a corner.

Agreed. I'm on Intel so I think at 4k with a direct comparison the 3080 will still come out ahead.

Even if it didn't, it won't be worth getting bent out of shape over it. I have zero buyer's remorse after today's announcement. I could be tempted to trade up to the 5900XT in the new year, but that's really dependant on price, performance and availability.

And 3080 owners? Is anyone paying for Visualping or similar?

Just right place right time; I got in on the very first supply drop that took everyone by surprise. It does seem like an impossible task now that every scalper on the internet has a Bot pointed at the product page. Even the AIB cards are out of reach as they're being sold by Nvidia endorsed scalpers with queues 100's & 1000's deep.

OK, I am officialy completely giving up on Nvidia Ampere.
Just selling my Alienware 3418dw G-sync monitor to get out of Nvidia lockdown and getting Gigabyte G34WQC instead.
If reviews for AMD 6800XT end in RTX 3080 balpark, I am swithing to 6800XT and getting Ryzen R9 5900x as well.

You're going to get out of the locked in Nvidia ecosystem and get balls deep in the AMD locked in ecosystem instead, for about 3% performance gain.

Crazy to think it's close on 2 months since the first supply drop that prompted this thread, and here we are still having to use software and sniper skills to get one within the weekly 2 minute window of opportunity.

Strange times.

It didnt make the 2080 EOL and it wont make the 3080 EOL. We did say this was happening a week after pre-release..

The difference with this generation is that there is very little room between the 3080 and 3090 in order to slot another card in there. There's what 15% between them? Why would anyone pay £1,000 for a 3080ti when the 3080 is £350 cheaper for a 5-10% drop in performance?

Traditionally, the 3080ti (if it even exists, and I'm not convinced) would match the 3090 and render it obsolete. But that usually happens a minimum of 6 months after initial release not 6 weeks.

When you see how close the 3080 and 3090 are it indicates to me that the top tier has been squeezed to it's limits and it's the mid range that had still to show it's hand i.e. 3050, 3060 etc..
