30xx Series Founders Edition

Dunno if anyone has noticed, that card prices have plunged on ebay. Only about 80% above RRP now.
All crazy hence I went for fe. At least nvida did increase the mssp. However was disappointed by the 3080ti pricing as it was so close to the 3090 and that’s why I just a 3090 as didn’t see the point in saving a few pounds.

Basically the ethereum crash has destroyed the the RoI on these cards and now dropping to what gamers are willing to pay, which is still unfortunately well above msrp.

Somewhat true, partly not.

The crash could have been triggered by anything, however its likely the Chinese Gov. banning regions from mining was a huge part. The domino affect of this was the price firstly tumbled, secondly the mining farms shutting down caused a big drop in difficulty.

If you are a miner elsewhere in the world this was good news. Its only bad if you are mining and selling straight away, hodlers will wait till the value pops up again and sell above 3k$.

As far as I can tell, the Chinese Gov. also blocked some exchanges from trading crypto so when any news like this kicks in the price of crypto always takes a tumble.

By just linking the ETH price chart isn't explaining what went on but I understand your simplifying it for non crypto users.

Miners aren't in it to be long ethereum. They will mine whatever is profitable and sell it straight away.

Mining and and being long on something are completely separate decisions.

Mining is dependent on the price of the coin (and difficulty). There is no point mining a coin which won't doesn't pay for your hardware, running costs and effort.

It is no coincidence that mining hardware tracks the price of the underlying coin that it is most profitable for.

It actually is as simple as that. It's like any other business.

Here is the ethereum hash rate in freefall.

Why? Nothing fundamental has been changed for the way the graphics card is meant to be used in its intended way.

Are miners so used to abusing computer components that they think they have extra rights?

Yea, you might want to deal with that chip on your shoulder before trying to engage in conversation.

Best thing to do, the 3080Ti is the worst priced 30xx currently. The 3090 is a no brainer if you were planning to buy a 3080Ti before knowing the price and specs, now people know they really shouldn't be looking at the 3080Ti when the 3090 FE is still available if they want above 10GB Vram, but the best buy for gaming only is the 3080 FE for the price. If you game and work on your PC and use applications/games that can use a lot of VRAM the 3090 is king.

I really wish they had 12GB on the 3080, 3080Ti should have had 16GB ( I know because of the BUS Width, but they could have changed that to allow 16GB) and the 3090 24GB as it is.

Most of what you say is accurate. This statement is complete bs though. Not all miners do it and sell instantly. Especially approaching a halfening or when like ETH is migrating to 2.0 people will think its value will kick up and are more likely to long.

A few called this out when the jokers were posting the "whos waiting for the 3080Ti, all these muppets buying 3090s" and then closely followed by nvidia declaring the cards were being delayed. Then they got delayed again.

We also said the Ti is going to be very near to 3090 so just buy a 3090 - this was back in December. Anyone who did basically missed out on six months worth of time and gaming, it went super quiet on that front lets just say that. :p

Miners liquidate their coins, if they are even getting coins. Pointing to a niche that may hold onto them, is just a distraction to what is happening. Nicehash doesn't even give you ethereum in the first place, for casual miners.

Mining is a business for the people with large rigs. They aren't speculating on the coin rising. They could have just purchased it if they wanted to do that.

The 3080ti is £300 cheaper than the 3090 and has almost identical gaming performance?

Big players or warehouses wont be using nicehash! They can make 4% more off the bat by cutting out middlemen like that!

Indeed. But the 3090 is terrible value already. Its 15% better than a 3080 at best at gaming. Yet costs 2x.
The 3080Ti, costs £400 more than the 3080FE. Sure its nearly as fast as the 3090, but as said thats only 15%~ at best anyway.

To me... if your going to spend the money on an 80Ti, why not spend the extra for the 3090? You get 2x the VRAM (should that ever become an issue in the future...)
It isnt an LHR card, which might help recover some of the outlay down the line.
And in FE guise, you get the much bigger cooler.

Still, neither the 3080Ti or the 3090 make any sense financially next to the 3080 when talking gaming.
