30xx Series Founders Edition

I have had my dispatch email today for my FE 3080!

Question, I previously had an MSI gaming X trio 3080 on order. Does anybody know the pros and cons of the FE over AIB regarding cooling and performance?

GPU also just dispatched, was worried as it been stuck on two ticks for ages! codes also received, now EK needs that waterblock out ASAP!

Performance wise some of the aftermarket models notch slightly higher as they are able to cool slightly better. This generation Nvidia have put a decent amount of effort in and the cooler seems capable of keeping temps pretty in check, not the best but very nice temps. Some of the secondary components on the FE model do seem to get slightly warmer, but still within spec. The FE model also exhausts some air out the back but not all.

Build quality wise, the FE models seem heads and shoulders above everything else though, look quality. For this gen, given the overclocking, or large lack of I would take the FE model, more so when you likely saved some money.

The cooolers on the AiB models usually give you a bit more room to OC, but the FE is gorgeous

Not sure the FE is going to fit in my case with my AIO radiator on the front, ughhhh.

Might have to wait a day or 2 until I can play with it whilst I await a new cooler :(

Apologies for my ignorance but I have the FE 3090 - which I purchased for work - but as a complete newbie to this - how do you guys overclock your card? Is it worth it for me just to gain a few extra fps on the limited gaming I do or would I get a significant boost (or would I also need to overclock my CPU and memory too?).

If its for work just leave it running at stock, Ampere cards are not great at overclocking and gaining an extra 5% for higher power consumption is just not worth the hassle for a work situation.

Okay thanks - I guess its curiosity as I see a lot of people on here OC. I also wonder if OCing my CPU and memory would improve system performance or is it something you really only notice when gaming (and again for fairly negliable results?) - I have no interest in benchmarking scores etc.
