330 - valuation please

Maybe it's because mine is an auto, but I struggle to get much above 24mpg out of mine. Still, I don't really care, I knew it wouldn't be economical from the start, and my cars are only going to get less economical, of that I am certain :p

Don't buy a Honda though, I know they are decent cars ...but they sure as hell aren't BMW's. Stick with the dark side, E39 530D Sport Touring or an E46 330D Sport Touring ...as already mentioned, are what I would recommend.

merlin, what did the dealers say?

They called me yesterday afternoon asking for the reg number which they forgot to take when I was there.

They have a trader who said he wants it but obviously the trader wants the reg number to make sure the history all stacks up with BMW's records (which it does because I ran the same check before I bought it) & no doubt they want to HPI it too (which again I did myself & and it's 100% clean).

So I'm promised a figure today. Whether that'll be £12k, £12.5k or £13.5k I've absolutely no idea whatsoever.

The Accord I'm interested in is £13k dead so it may be a straight swap jobbie.

You will be lucky to get a straight swap, dealers hate doing swaps, they will probably try to sqeeze some cash out of you at any rate.

Plus if its an external buyer and you were lucky and the trader is offering a buy in at 13k (very unlikely) They would tell you he is offering 12k.

Most likely the trader will offer at bottom-mid book/trade. I would guess you will need to put in 1-2k into the deal but you may get very lucky.

You're right - generally they don't like it, especially the big franchises but these guys are cool with a straight swap, I've already laid my cards on the table. They've done straight swaps before, and downgrades where they'll hand over cash to the customer before - not a problem.

Bear in mind they're going to make a £1k easily on the price of the Accord. I could buy it private for less than £12k. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if they make £1500 easily.

Whats the spec of the Accord? I would guess they will have 2k in that atm.

Its the new financial year so they won't have to bend over backwards. I reckon a token £500 or something at least. Especially when you consider the bottom trade value on your BMW.

I "think" it's a late 04 with 30,500 on the clock - ruby red 2.2 iCTDI Exec with ivory leather interior. It's on autotrader somewhere.

You're right - they've probably got close to £2k on that car.

I'm not adverse to throwing a bit of cash into the deal. I'm not sure if it's taxed or not for a start, also not sure when next service is - so if they want a bit of cash I can play with the salesman over some road tax & maybe a deal on the next service. They are reasonably people - they looked after my Integra DC5.

That said they might just completely take the ****, but we'll see.

Off to York now in the 330.

It may not be the start of their financial year though. Companies do not run to the Fiscal year all the time. End of the month is when you want to buy a car for the deals tbh.

Jez, mailed you per trust account.

I cant check that mailbox from here (contracting at Argos MK, and behind an arse of a proxy), i will have access tonight however :) No go from the dealer then?

So the dealer was being a fag??

Well, yes and no - they came up with "£12,000 maybe a fraction more", which tbh isn't good enough purely on the principle of the matter.

Where we fell down was they were being typical Honda dealers and won't move on the screen price of the car I want.

Of couse they may have a trader saying they'll take it for £11,500 and then they're bumping that up to £12k by losing £500 off the screen price. Dunno, but it's the principle of the matter afaic.

Yep don't do it mate, loads of other accords to pick from not like you have to have this one, as you know, will get the best all round deal by selling private and going in with cash :)

And get one that hasn't 'got fake wood' ;)
