Really dislike the E90, it's so oddly styled IMHO. It sort of sits in a no-mans-land between bland and 'unfinished'. Missing door bump strips, no LED lights, etc. The equivilent Audi A4 and Mercedes C Class look like far more premium cars than the E90. Even the general shape - too many edges.

Which is a shame, because fundamentally the E90 is a good car.

Best thing to do with an E46 is keep it, skip a generation and buy an F30 IMHO. BMW are very much back on form with the F Series.

I totally disagree, but that's your taste and opinion, having had an e46 for 4 years I think my e90 is so much better

The facelift E46 Coupe with the LED lights is simply stunning. IMHO it's aging better than the E92...

Whilst the one I went to view the other month was tired inside there was no doubting it looked awesome on the outside.

Maybe I'll give them another look once the house move is done as an addition to the Honda rather than a replacement....

Well I picked her up today!! Had a lovely drive back from Essex...got home and managed to get my phone paired up to the Bluetooth, she was running like a dream.

It's my birthday tomorrow so was due to go out for dinner this evening with the gf and her family. Climb into the car to head on over to the gfs and it won't start! It had all the symptoms of a dead battery..lights came on on the dash but when turning the key it just clicked.

Called Green Flag out who came out and initially diagnosed a flat battery, so he hooked it up to his van and we tried to start it again..this time she turned over but wouldn't fire. He plugged his diag machine in which reports codes of no signal from the crankshaft position sensor. He tried unplugging the battery for 5 minutes but that didn't help :(

She's now sat on the drive unable to be driven and has to be recovered to a local BMW specialist on Monday :( It was all going so well!

Lovely looking car OP, shame ownership has started on a bad point.
Could be worse, I know of somebody who recently changed his car for a used Volvo XC90, whilst his "new" one was being prepped at the dealer, a skip lorry backed into it, bending the roof & windscreen pillar & wrote it off! He never even got drive it bar the initial test drive....

More powerful...?

It won't gain over standard as such, but will run much better than previously, well, certainly the experience I got with my e39 528i - it was not noticably -to me- down on power prior to the sensor replacement, but clearly was once the new one was fitted if that makes sense? :)

Well I still don't have the car back :( Got it recovered to the local BMW specialist first thing this morning who said it was probably just flooded after all the failed attempts at starting it. I left it with them to sort out while I went to work.

In the meantime I called the dealer and had a rant, and they admitted they had a feeling the battery may be dodgy..yeah thanks for that!. They'd trickle-charged it the night before I collected the car and hoped for the best. They were perfectly happy to purchase a new battery and I left the dealer to organise it all with the garage, who agreed with the diagnosis of a dodgy battery as they'd managed to get the car running but only with a jump; the battery wasn't holding a charge.

The new battery finally arrived at 5pm so I shot off with the gf to pick the car up while the garage fitted it. Got a call half way there to tell me that the battery was the wrong one! Now have to wait until tomorrow until they get the correct battery in.

Have owned the car for 3 days now and driven it for a total of 2.5 hours..really can't wait to get behind the wheel of it again..I'd just found sport mode on the gearbox and was looking forward to testing it out further :)

Agree, it's the best looking BMW ever made.

840Ci begs to differ!

But yeah, Sport Coupe E46 is easily a shape that ages very well. A well looked after one looks and feels every bit as modern as a new car. Change the thin flimsy leather gearbox and handbrake gaiter with a thick one and it gives it an even nicer look. No idea why BMW chose such a crap gaiter for their cars...

I know my car has the smaller engine but it's come to the point where this isn't even a huge deal any more because there isn't any other used car for reasonable money that looks or feels as nice to drive as to be in.

She's back :) New battery and the plugs whipped out to remove the excess fuel was all she needed.

Had such a lovely drive home. I've just ordered an aux in cable but not sure I'm going to need it as its much more fun just opening the window and listening to the engine noise :)

Will get her cleaned up at the weekend and get some proper photos taken.

M52 engine? I keep thinking I should change cam and crank sensors on mine.

Yes, M52, it was very high mileage, and I'd presumed it was a bit flat due to the miles covered and it being a bigger, heavier car than my previous M52 engined 328i.
Upon changing the sensors however it felt completely different to drive and no longer tired at all.

It was not noticeable - like a misfire for example - prior to changing the sensors, just felt a bit flat, easy to put down to the 260+k miles it had done, after,I was very surprised at how fresh the engine felt, almost like it had been completely overhauled!

Well worth doing if yours are suspect imo - although it could feel off for other reasons of course, I hope your experience is the same to mine!

The E46 Coupe is beautiful and I would absolutely love a 330ci at some point. It is a shame that by the time I will be in a position to own one the newest ones will be ten years old :(
