360 "slim" and natal to be called Kinect?

Well here is a story, I am not obliged to wait on the retailer sending a console off to MS for repair ( having had numerous 360's red ring and getting a straight over the counter replacement every time ) and when my PS3 40gig croaked it I was given a brand new 80gig model as they had no 40gig models left.

The retailer is responsible to give a replacement of equal value so even if the elite is reduced until all remaining stock is cleared and when I go to the retailer when I am sure they have no stock left in store, my receipt for £200 elite will entitle me to a replacement slim of the same value.

When was your original receipt?
As that's one factor.

Secondly, the retailer is under no obligation to give you a new console exchange. Their priority is a repair, within reasonable time. So it will all be down to the individual retailer as to whether in your case, they will swap you out for a brand new model, or whether they will simply offer to repair it, as it's no longer a straight swap.

its the same as all current 360's, standard 1 year warranty.

you only get 3 years for 3 red lights and e74, which this console shouldnt have.

Personally I think it's still too expensive.. Not sure on UK prices, but in the US the PS3 can be had for $299, which is the same price you can pick these up for.. Seeing that the PS3 has an excellent BD player and free online play still makes it the better choice for newcomers. Microsoft should have really tried to come in lower than Sony and make it the more attractive option.. Not the other way round.

There's no point comparing it with US prices, as that's the same for any goods sold in the UK, we always get hit with higher retail prices.

As somebody else pointed out, they will drop the price of the existing stock of Arcade's and Elite's, which will make for some great deals. The new console will be for people seriously wanting an upgrade, or people new to Xbox 360 who can afford and want the top model. Then once the stock is cleared, towards Xmas, they will likely drop the price down a little. No doubt also with numerous bundles for the Kinect in November.

The only thing I need is a big hard drive and possible soon a new controller :)

Mind, the whole thing would be cooler if they only had a 120mm intake on the side! Would be very cool then :)

if you convert the price we are actually paying £2 less than the yanks, for once we aint getting ripped off.

300.00 USD = 202.468 GBP

It doesn't bother me per se, I just think it's a rather childish thing to do that's all.

Sounds like it does to me otherwise you wouldn't have pointed it out. I swear it is this section of OcUK - only a few weeks ago I accidentally added 'r' to bought and someone jumped on it in an instant. I never knew it was deemed childish, it is just a another way to abbreviate Microsoft IMO. It is just second nature to me when I am typing. Tell me, why is it childish exactly? TBH it is a pretty big assumption you are making, you know next to nothing about me. Who would have thought by simply changing S to $ deems me childish, what a world. I better watch out in the future :p

Anyway back on topic, I think I am going to sell my unused 360 and buy the slim and hook it up to my 22" :)

New 360 looks better than the old one unless you're a crack head and cant see properly through crack abuse but its still an Xbox with nothing new inside it to warrant me buying one

They were all within the first year of purchase, this current elite was purchased in April of this year, so it is pushing 2 months old.

HD prices are better these days, the 120GB is less than £50. Hopefully the 250Gb, if sold separately, will be under £100 once prices settle. Will many people fill the 250 or need a bigger one though? A lot manage with 20Gb (personally I couldn't).

So this is an Elite replacement? And they still selling the Arcade? So surely if your 360 goes down wont they just give you an arcade model and tell you to keep the HDD?

I very highly doubt they could do that, I purchased the elite model ..... so accepting a cheaper model with me just slapping my HDD into it does not add up.

Also the ps3 was purchased from one high street retailer and the 360 from another ..... and both followed the same procedure. Straight swap for the broken one, and all were within the first 12 months of purchase.

Is it confirmed this only has a 1 year warranty (compared to 3 years for RROD and E74 issues on earlier revisions?).

Someone mentioned it earlier in the thread but I did not see any sources.

Doesn't matter anyway. In this country under your statutory rights you have 5 years in which you could get your console repaired or replaced by the shop you bought it from if there is a manufacturer fault(I know this as I rung consumer direct the other day and was told by them)

As for the new 360 - I likes. The name Kinect - not so much.
