3600 upgrade

I'm so confused now tbh and i do appreciate all the help here, ideally i would prefer to get a 5600x as its cheap and available right now not like the 5700x3d which could take a month i do get the 100mb extra cache and its benefits. Would getting the 5600x be a complete waste of money over my 3600? wouldnt the 5600X be better than a 3600 for bottlenecks when paired with 7900 GRE? The benchmarks linked above are 3yrs old and do not include any driver enhancements which are heavily used even with the RTX 4080-90 7900XTX nowadays. Surely the 5600X would be an improvement over the 3600 at 60hz with the 7900 GRE at 4K 60? I'm not disagreeing with anybody here btw

Being brutally honest you'd be better just using the 7900GRE in your machine as it is. You can make a decision on a CPU upgrade at a later date, if necessary.

If your games drop below 60fps it won't be because it's CPU limited. You'd have gotten more performance at 4k by spending an extra £130 on the next tier of GPU tbh.

The 5600X obviously would be an improvement, but not to a game-changing degree. If you're going to go for one last AM4 upgrade, I highly recommend going the X3D route. That's speaking as somebody who jumped from a 5800X to a 5800X3D last year and was very pleased with the results. Obviously a 3600 to a 5700X3D would be even better. As for getting a 5700X3D via the method suggested, I can also vouch for that as a regular customer. I bought something last month (a retro handheld) which had a minor defect, for which I received a prepaid return label (UK address) and a full refund the very next day. As long as you stick to sellers with lots of feedback, you're covered to at least the same degree you are as a buyer on Ebay. The 5700X3D was £117 shipped to your door in the sale that ended a few days ago, which is insane value. It'll likely be around the same when the next sale starts in a couple of days. Well worth the wait for it to arrive IMO and you'll be much better set in the long run. Your 3600 will do until then.

Now i realise the CPU paired with the 7900 GRE is not ideal
That entirely depends on the games and resolution you play at. At 4K a 3600 may still be ok. If it's competitive, high FPS games you play then it could be an issue. Some games are entirely GPU bound and almost don't care what CPU you have. It really depends.

I personally made the jump from a 3600 to a 5800x, as my 3080 was being bottlenecked on some games at 1440p. This was before x3d was a thing. It made a big difference, but on games where I wasn't bottlenecked, there was no change.

If you do upgrade I would recommend the 5700x3d. Pretty much the best bang for buck you can get without changing motherboards.

Just an update: So i ordered the 5700X3D last night its says 7th December delivery though im expecting it to be longer than that? I also ordered a 7900 GRE with some new 32GB DDR 4 Ram. This morning also ordered a new PC case as stupidly i forgot about the GRE dimensions :) Thanks all the help-advice

Goof luck, I have had some things I ordered from there take 2 weeks, but the CPU took 4 weeks.
You never know, I hope your luck is in.

I'd give it a go, I expect it will be fine, but might have to fiddle with the fan curves to get a nice noise profile.
Im decided to give my son his first desktop PC for Xmas so ill be keeping the 3600 RTX 3060ti - Ram - and cooler now (Hyper TX3 EVO ) I just need to get a new cooler for the 5700x3d for myself when it arrives.

Just waiting for 5700x3d and case now...

Did a similar upgrade a few months back but with the 5800x3d 32gb ram and a 7900GRE you made a good choice :D

I ordered one from the same site and the delivery information was pretty much on the nose +- 1 day I think. It's almost like a global marketplace understands logistics. Mine took about 10 days to arrive. Just look for sellers with good reviews (ideally in English, and lots of them) - that are broadly in-line pricing wise with the market.

Stuck mine in, very straightforward as have a AIO so literally a case of flashing the BIOS to most recent non beta, unscrewing a couple of thumbscrews swapping it; pasting and putting the cold plate back on. It took a few powercycles to come good then popped up a thing about hardware had changed and windows wanted me to reset my PIN. That was about it; half hour or so all in. I'm a bit lower in 3D Mark now - but that's expected due to going from 12 cores to 8.
