Hey guys,

Looking at some 370z cars on AutoTrader, I see some good deals on cars with around 45-70k miles on the clock, how would these fair?

Or am I better getting one with lower miles and a touch newer??

Cheers.

I think they are ok as long as you only run them on premium fuel. And they really go through it being a 3.7l V6.

(premium price atm lol)

Yeah, I owned a 350z back in 2006-2007 and cost a bit to run, even then! how much is your road tax for the year?

Ok yeah, I went from 350 to 370.

I use premium every once in a while.
Tax is 565.. at least that’s what I paid in December. It could be more now

how did you find the transition to the 370z? better? worse?

I went from a manual 2007 350, to an auto 2010 370.

It just felt like an all round upgrade. The nav and gadgets especially. The jukebox was quite cool and being able to search for a post code in satnav was awesome haha.. (you couldn’t do that in the 350’s nav)

Interior was a definite upgrade. But even then don’t expect much…

Boot space was an improvement since the suspension strut wasn’t in the way.

Driving wise they felt very similar. Neither are a precision sports car but since you had a 350 you know that. I never tracked either of them tbh

imo the 370 looks better too.

EDIT I just looked and I’m on 19 mpg avg

AFAIK much of the talk about needing premium fuel comes from places which have sub 93 octane as their regular stuff (and all the compression related issues). Though it will run better on higher grade fuel up to a point. Most of these bigger engine Nissans if you really care probably benefit from shoving an additive through every once in awhile (unless you always run them on high grade fuel).

If you have it serviced by Nissan themselves they will probably charge you for their "intelligent motorist pack" (or whatever variant) which is a flush and additives though it is a more expensive way of what you could do yourself but it is kind of recommended to do something like that with these engines periodically.

While I've not run a 370Z myself and lots I don't know - my variant of the Navara pickup shares some DNA with the 370Z when it comes to design and some of the underlying electronics/transmission - I kind of like the older school mechanical approach it feels more reliable and has a certain simplicity in operation (despite being overly complex in some ways to maintain).

The only major issue I can recall is some of the 2010 cars had an issue with the steering lock that cost £££. Other than that generally reliable, I had a 370Z Nismo, my mate had a 370Z GT, and I have also had a 350Z.
What sort of budget are you looking at? Personally I would get either a Z4 35i, or a 350z over a 370z. It just did not impress that much, the exhaust note was weak compared to the 350z, even with an aftermarket exhaust, and the engine felt asthmatic. The car felt like it needed a pair of turbos to really come alive, but that is £££.

If you go for a newer one they have been out for a long time, so you would think any common failures will have been sorted by rolling updates. Even an older one with more miles should be OK as any issues would normally have shown up by now.

I paid around ~17k for mine 4 years ago and saw one for sale recently at a very close price. Similar year and spec too..

Car price crazyness at the moment.

thanks for the info guys!

the issue that I have been swithering on, is..I love the 350Z but trying to find one thats unmolested is hard, hence why I was considering a 370Z also..?

I think the cars are tuned for 98 ron from factory, if you use a lower quality fuel the ECU will pull timing and reduce power. The manual basically says to use super unleaded, only use 95 ron in emergencies.

Not just performance reasons most of these bigger engine Nissans don't seem to like regular grade fuel, even if they don't explicitly state to use a higher grade, and get pretty gunked up if you don't run them periodically on something better and/or additive.

Why would they need premium fuel? Sounds like Internet ******** to me.

My 350z stipulated super in its manual, it's been tuned to run on high octane fuel. There are enough stories and evidence from the tuning experts and nissan experts that it's not good for the engine, the VQ35 engine is a bit more prone to knock damage so revving it high will cause a lot of detonation damage.

Just make sure to have an independent inspection done first at a reputable place to check for mods / tuning / common issues.

Great cars, lots of fun, but you see lots up for sale "as stock" with the owners listing 50 odd mods for sale on facebook/forums.

To add to this, Abbey Motorsport are a very well respected 370 and 350 specialists, so they would be ideal for an inspection imo.

In terms of tuning if I recall correctly these cars can make circa 400bhp off bolt ons. The Z1 400bhp package comes to mind, for more than 400 you'll need FI

Yeah, some good points here, thanks guys.

I looked at supercharger / turbo kits for the 350z a few months back but the insurance quotes were astronomical soon as I hit that "engine mod" section. :(
