3870x2 running cod4

lol, i've wondered about the cooler noise as well, given that the cooler just looks like a couple of metal slabs with a fan ;)

However it could just act like the 3870stock cooler and just be quiet until doing something! :) Hopefully noise wont be an issue but I have good hopes for this card!

It looks longer than the GTX to me, im sure the end of the connector to the back of the card is not that long.

Ahh it is the same length, looks longer as the HSF goes all the way to the end of the board, the GTX's doesn't. :p

It has been laid down next to a gtx and it is basically the same size.

Airflow is quieter when being sucked through fins, than when being pushed thrown fins. I wonder if that is offset by placing the cooler right at the other end of the card instead? I'm still surprised that AMD are using the blower design however as it is inherently noisy :(

Anyway, still excited to see how well the drivers support the card, and the initial prices.

How long is that anyway? I can see a lot of people who don't own a premium case are gonna have problems fitting that?

It does look longer than a 8800GTX though? anyone got a picture of these two cards side by side?

I've just been messing about in photoshop with a pic of a GTX and that pic of the 3870X2 above, and near as damn it both cards are the same length when you line up the PCI-E connectors. The GTX's fan stops much earlier, but the card length is nigh on the exact same length.

EDIT - Pic swiped from elsewhere:

Post it up then please! :)

[edit] lol ninja edit, you did! :p

I think the Radeon card has a more 'leaner' cooler maybe? you know like a lanky person looks taller than a stout person?

Seems the trend for bigger cards may be here to stay, all the mobo makers and case manufacturers better start making adjustments or we will be in trouble

Yeah, I've had a go in photoshop myself to confirm that pic above that I swiped, its hard to find a pic of a GTX at a similar angle to the 3870X2 above, but from what I can tell when overlaying a GTX they are very close.

you do know that picture is modified right? serial number and heatsink are both chopped

still looks longer than 8800GTX to me, look how short the PCI-E connector is, still think lots of people might have space issues
