39 Bodies found in Lorry in Essex

What may have worked is long breathing straws which the inhabitants could have stuck in the drain holes, thus breathing outside air.
Assuming the trailer was loaded with pallets of products (highly likely) these would have been sitting on the drain holes which run usually in channels along the floor of the trailer.

What would have worked better is either not using a reefer trailer at all or using legitimate means of course!

Thing is though reefers are far better at defeating port scanners than a normal curtain sided or box trailer due to the thickness of the walls because of the layers of insulation.

Incidentally you can switch off the refrigeration unit on a trailer parked in the midday sun and leave it for a surprising length of time before its internal temperature starts to markedly rise, they are very well insulated.

It's all gone very quiet, obviously a media blackout.
Yes a media blackout which is how people know about it to post in here.

Or maybe there is some other ongoing news that has been a little more important and urgent than reporting on that particular trial for the last few weeks, something that might have resulted for example in a large number of deaths and the PM being in hospital. But it's definitely a media blackout for...reasons.

Oi, we’ll have none of that common sense around here. It’s a conspiracy for sure.

Been little about it for months though.

Pleading guilty to 39 counts of manslaughter, that has to be some serious jail time. Hopefully anyway.

There rarely is for any case between arrest and the trial..

i don't know how much you pay attention to the news normally, but because once someone is arrested the news services have to be very very careful of what is said in case it affects the jury, so they won't comment but just report facts until the end of the trial, and if there are little or no new developments there is basically nothing to report on apart from "the trial has started", and if the suspect has pleaded guilty that "trial has started" message often concludes with something along the lines "and he's pleaded guilty sentencing is expected...".
Given at the moment there is this little slightly inconvenient pandemic thing going on and the courts are basically running with absolute minimum numbers of people in them, there won't even be many/any court reporters at the moment (even barristers are doing their jobs by video link in many cases to give an idea of how many people are in the court rooms), so you'd not expect to see much about it.

There is nothing suspicious and certainly no mysterious or nefarious "media blackout" on this case, it's just that in the scheme of things it's insignificant news compared to something that is currently killing around 500-800 people a day in the UK alone and has completely thrown everything off it's normal course.

39 people locked up for however long, and all in freezing temperatures? Did they have anything? Food? Water? Blankets? Walkie-talkie in case something went wrong?

If not, then calling it manslaughter is BS in my opinion and this should be a life tariff.

Keep people from talking about, burry it under the carpet, it never happened.

but it's been to Court today and the driver has admitted to all 39 charges !!!

or do you think the National News should be reporting on it every day up until this court case today?
Can you imagine "Good evening, nothing to report on the 39 deaths today because it's still going through the process" and so on for 6 months ......................................

Fair enough what you say.

Wonder where all those guys that were protesting his innocence have gone?

I may well be wrong,

But it was my impression at the time that the people were already dead/dying when he took over as driver for his leg of the journey.

As such he was not directly responsible for their deaths but only insofar as he was a part of the wider criminal conspiracy to illegally traffic illegal immigrants into the UK.

If this is indeed the case, it raises an interesting point.

If his guilt is as a result of the part he played in the overall criminal conspiracy, then the families of the victims who paid the smugglers to traffic them are just as much a part of the same conspiracy and should face manslaughter charges too.

Of course this will never happen. But perhaps it should. It would certainly sharpen the minds of those that chose to engage the services of illegal traffickers should they find themselves being treated legally as co-conspirators in a criminal activity and have to face the same legal consequences as the actual smugglers.
