39 Bodies found in Lorry in Essex

When it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and looks like a duck - it's normally a duck.
Indeed, and it wasn’t just that, there was a whole bunch of other things that were red flags that made it not just possible, but obvious that this was probably a case of people smuggling.

It was a possibility, but not obvious. Lots of crazy stuff (much of it racist) also did the rounds.

The pitch forks and torches lynching mob have been proved right in hindsight, nothing else.

It's noticeable that either detections and/or reporting on other people smuggling have increased since.

You're just dismissing it as the "pitch forks and torches lynching mob" because you were being overly dismissive earlier in the thread.

The truck just accidentally picked up 39 people without the original driver knowing and this other guy arranged to collect it and drop it off in that location cos that's totally normal.... hmm...

I don't think I expressed an opinion either way about the driver. I was just watching the thread because I was easier to sub this thread than follow the media. Then I realised the thread was worse than the tabloids for speculation.

As for pitchforks... if it walks like a duck...

What mainly got my ire was the speculation that it was IRA simply because he was Irish. (though technically he's probably British).

Still desperately sad.

I still don't get why people travel cross the entire world to get to the UK. Are there not closer places with similar opportunities. Or why smuggle at all why not fly and disappear using a holiday visa.

There was speculation that it was linked to Irish republican gangs because they’ve been involved in people smuggling and he’s apparently involved in people smuggling... he didn’t do this by himself, it’s the result of organised crime!
