4.8ghz on 3770k

Great topic, thanks guys. Currently trying to stabilise my 3770K at 4.8 with no joy.
4.7 was a breeze and she does it light at 1.24v, but 4.8 is a totally different matter with this die.

You have found the sweet spot man leave as is or add a touch of BLK for 4.75 or drop the multi and add even more BLK to give same CPU frequency but higher on mem and PCI EX

Unfortunately, I cannot master overclocking with the BLK. Id like to but something is holding me back.
I might purchase a higher frequency ram, maybe 1800mhz or so.

If ou are going to buy New RAM I would go 2133mhy as this is teh sweet spot for performance on this platform.

I like the Corsair Dominators I have a PSC and a Hynix kit they are great. Its Vengeance I dont like.

Yes that is the kind of kit but if you can just go 2x4gb. Clocks batter!!!

just 8gb? I will loose performance when working on my music on my DAW if i drop half the amount.
ps... i was only messing about the Dominator bit lol

Out of interest do you really notice that much of a performance hit? Only I have my macbook pro for logic which has 8GB and I don't ever use it all up. VSTs don't seem to have much of a impact and I don't keep much audio in RAM as I use Ableton for that. 16GB would be a nice sweet spot but any more I think is overkill, I would use a separate interface for stuff like that like a pro tools rack.

The more instruments and plugins you use the more ram is used. I've noticed a big difference with 16gb compared to 8. I use Cubase on my hack-mac and performs much better with extra ram. I have external audio interfaces and synths also.
I also use my hack-mac for video editing and rendering.

LOL why not then? DO you think its my motherboard?
I have been looking at the 4930K and the Asus ROG black edition and a OCUK custom watercooled case. Hopefully Ill have no barriers then?

16gb @2400mhz will be hard to get stable on z77/ivy

it strains the imc needing more voltage, you should manage 2133mhz though
