Hi,
Just new to this forum but I wanted to post in this thread.
Sometime ago I posted a message concerning my Powercolor hd4870 with an Accelero S1 rev2 on a German forum. This is the message:

In the meantime I had two 120mm @1000rpm fans sticked to it, it did a great job but the temps not changed very much than with two 92mm @1400rpm fans. Until a few days ago I had the original red backplate on it but after reading some of the messages on this forum I thought I give it a try and go for the version without the red backplate... Well, what a surprise it was to notice that the temps dropped even further... Here some temps on different operating freqs of the GraKa (GrafikKarte) and two 92mm fans @ 1400rpm:
(min.) 500/450 with backplate: gpu 33c, vrm 44.... without backplate: gpu 32c, vrm 41c
(default) 750/900 with backplate: gpu 37c, vrm 50c... without backplate: gpu 34c, vrm 46c
(max.) 790/1100 with backplate: gpu 40c, vrm 56c... without backplate: gpu 36c, vrm 49c
As you can see the temps dropped with 1 - 4c on the gpu and with 3 - 7c on the VRM's. Especially the VRM's are quite important because they seem to rise quickly in Furmark but in games, much for realistic in my opinion, the VRM's won't get past 82c and that is well within parameters.
The standard stickpads on the sinks are sticking very well, even though I removed them twice already for refitting/rebuilding reasons. Very important is that the long sink for the VRM is attached with some pressure because only sticking it onto the chips won't get you low temps because of poor contact; just firmly (but gently) screw that heatsink to the board and you're good to go!
