"4870x2 reviews thread"

Well all we have so far are early beta drivers with engineering sample cards, its very possible the final product could be 15% faster than 4870 crossfire. We won't know till then though.

yes this is true

I've always thought though that the 4870x2 is not necessary unless you are running above 1920 x 1200.

My single 4870 runs GRID at 1680x1050 max detail and aa on between 76-100 fps which is good enough for me.

yes this is also a good point and one i agree with

Don't look like my Corsair 520w will handle it then :(

Looking at the COD4 results, I need one! now!

Why not? If total system usuage is 400w, although it will be at the top of what it can handle, I don't see why not.

I have giving up on people telling me my system shouldn't run on my 5 year old Tagan 480W psu.

Yeah 10% faster @ 2560*1600, but then again it should be with 1GB, for anything less than that res it isnt!!! I doubt many people game with 30" screens

Anyone gaming at less than 2560*1600 shouldn't be buying the 4780x2 or running a 4870 CF system anyway since at lower resolutions you'd be CPU limited anyway.

I couldn't agree more. I can't beleive how many people are posting about the "disappointing" results with the 4870x2 at 1680x1050 resolutions.

That's not what the card is designed for.

The big thing that would swing it for me is if the x2 works on dual GPU in ALL games, rather than just those that support CF.
I play a lot of old games (some, like MSTS still bring the 8800GTX to it's knees by the time you get decent IQ), so SLI/CF have always seemed more trouble that they are worth for me.
That's why I was looking forward to seeing the x2 in action, owing to the different interGPU communication promised. But nobody seems to have tested in it games known to hate CF.

it's looking good even with these early drivers, when they mature more then it will be impressive, now when is Nvidia going to open their can of "whoop ass"?

Well i will be using mine at 1600x1200 and i know it is way too much power for that but i know my monitor is not ageing well and will be buying a new monitor within the next 6 months.
