Maybe one of the other threads would be adequate for this, but I thought this might be a good place to post for people that own the card.

Thoughts/issues so far...

1. One of my cores is running idle at 82c, the other at 60c. Not sure this is healthy?

2. Is it normal for device manager to show two lots of 'ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2' ?

3. Should I be seeing a crossfire section in the catalyst menu tree? Or does this show for multi card set-ups only?

4. I've not been able to install the latest 8.7 drivers from the ATI site. The catalyst manager installs, but the driver doesn't. I can install the driver supplied with the CD and the 8.8 beta however. I'm on vista 64.

5. Can someone with this card that also has 'The Witcher' and can run at 2560x1600 (must be someone!)do me a huge favour and tell me what fps they get in the middle of the trade district area where there are loads of streets/buildings in view. I'm getting around 30-40 fps here. Going from the reviews/previews around the web, reports show an fps of 70 in this game, although they may not have tested in this particular portion of the game.

Great idea, count me in. I've had a nightmare with mine today. Literally all day and night trying to sort it, but finally done it. Not sure exactly how, but it's now running as it should I think (see my other thread about it performing worse than my 8800GTX.)

Not sure how I sorted it, but I reinstalled everything and I also think my CPU and FSB settings had gone mad, which I think might have been the main problem.

EDIT - mine idles at 60 on one core, 45 on the other at the moment. This is using GPUZ sensor tab.

My question - Is there any way to check that it's going up to 750 on the core and 900 on the mem like it should when running a 3d app?

Was having crazy artifacting issues on my card but somehow they have gone away - I think it was a driver issue perhaps caused by the fan not spinning up properly or clock speeds not getting set correctly..either way it's seemed to resolve itself - I hope!

Would appreciate it if anyone else can post their Furmark benchmarks (as it seems GPU heavy) to confirm that my card is working correctly:

Furmark v1.4 Fullscreen
Score: 5846
FPS Min:87
FPS Max:132
FPS Avg:98
Time: 60000ms
Res: 1280x1024 / MSAA: 0x
Renderer: ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2
Active GPUs: 2
Drivers: 5.2.3790.1830 - Catalyst 0
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.4Ghz
CPU Speed: 2400MHz

Windows XP X64 Edition.

Cheers!

I had pretty much the same scores. But noticed even though its says 2 GPU'2 active its not using the 2nd GPU. According to my Logitech G15 reading from Everest GPU2 is not being used at all in this benchmark.

Btw, could people post their idle temps here for the x2's.

Mine are GPU1: 82 GPU2: 50

Wandering if this is normal due to GPU2 being closer to the fan?

Use two monitors an put the temp sensing program on the other. :)

Thanks, that works.

Using GPUZ, sensor tab. Make sure you tick the box at the bottom which makes it refresh whilst another app is running.

To check if both cores are running as the yshould in 3d you have to go to the drop down on the first gpuz tab and select 1, then run a 3d test and view the sensor info on the second monitor. Then run it again and select the other in the drop down on the first tab.

Works for me anyway, and both my cores and mem show as running at 750/ 900 when a 3d app is running.

i'll have a fiddle with mine tonight also see what temps and things im getting and if its using both cores, would it be the driver that is in charge of saying use both cores or would it be the program?

Last night mine was around 65 and 45 for the other core.

Had a quick go at 3mark vantage and got around 13k something (I think 13.4k) haven't had a chance to play about with anything else as my ram was playing up yesterday so I'm trying to sort that out!

Guys just FYI the spec on the back of the HIS box says the requirements are a 650W PSU *Minimum*

I Know a few peeps had issues and turned out then had 600W PSU's .

Someone here was also speccing a new PC with a 4870X2 and a 650W PSU and when I suggested to up the PSU I got a few replies saying that 650 was enough . It maybe be *just* enough but if it was me I would feel more confortable with a 720+ PSU

i too am getting one core idle at 53 degrees and the other at 80 ish.

anyone know how i mess with the fanspeed to crank it up ?

im using 8.8 beta drivers i got P14797 on performance and X7018 on extreme in vantage

ORB page only show generic VGA card too not the right model of card.
