4870X2 - support thread

Maybe look to see if there is a suitable aftermarket cooler rather than cranking up fan speeds ?
And invalidate the warranty? :(

Rivatuner should be able to change the fan speed, that's what I use with my 3870X2. The default fan speed of 27% whilst quiet doesn't cool the card very well.

I see your CPU is overclocked to 4.3HGZ , does that invalidate the warranty ? :)

But yeah , I know what you mean . Suppose try the Rivaturner option first ...

Is it normal for the 2nd core to throttle in 2D or could I be looking at a driver, gpuz or card bug?

Like this:

Also, is it normal for CCC to list one adapter as disabled?

Like this:

I can't test the card with fraps or 3d mark until tonight, so at the mo I have no idea of its 3d performance.

My 4870X2 pre built system arrives tomorrow without any operating system or software.

I'm planning to install
Vista Ultimate 64
Then SP1
Then 8.8 Beta drivers

in that order

Anyone got any advice on whether this is the best order, should I switch the SP1 and 8.8 drivers around?

Also any other tips on what else I might need to install to get the card X2 working correctly (apart form the obvoius - Games to use it).

Cheers

Taff

Considering my chip is an ES there was no warranty to begin with :) Personally I'd baulk at the idea of installing an aftermarket cooler on Day 1 of owning a card like this, but that's just me.

Can someone answer the questions in my last post, pretty please?

You only have to open gpuz and click the drop down box in the bottom left to check what values it's displaying for the 2nd gpu.

I'm not sure gpu1 should be running 3d clocks on the desktop either:/

Ok, the different clocks seem to be down to gpuz reading them incorrectly, and apparently it's normal for CCC to list one adapter as disabled.

Only another 2 hours to go before I can test it properly with some gaming goodness. :)

Thanks for the help and support, lol.

Here's mine.

Looks the same except for your second gpu bandwidth/memory. Its a bit hit and miss.

They're both throttled back if you check, odd one throttles both memory and core.

This is from the monitoring file in AMDGPU, from 2d to 3d. I've no idea if the results can be trusted. I have a tiny overclock on to see what's happening, looks like core 1 is default 800/900 and not overclocking with the overdrive.

16:16:52, ASIC Temperature via internal TSS [0] (C) = 84.500, ASIC Temperature via internal TSS [1] (C) = 60.500,
MCLK(MHz)[0] = 900.00, SCLK(MHz)[0] = 506.25, MCLK(MHz)[1] = 900.00, SCLK(MHz)[1] = 506.25
16:16:53, ASIC Temperature via internal TSS [0] (C) = 83.000, ASIC Temperature via internal TSS [1] (C) = 61.000,
MCLK(MHz)[0] = 918.75, SCLK(MHz)[0] = 760.93, MCLK(MHz)[1] = 900.00, SCLK(MHz)[1] = 800.00

Mine is the same in 2D mode. I can see on the G15 LCD output though that GPU2 Clock goes upto 750 when you start a game, so I think its normal. I'll need to test the Memory speed when i get home as I'm not monitoring that currently. But I reckon it will do the same.

Thanks for that fornowagain, your CCC looks the same as mine though, below "primary adapter" is where it says "disabled adapter" (need to scroll down a tad).

I think the difference in the 2nd gpu's bandwidth/memory compared to yours is more than likely a bug with gpuz. I'm running xp btw.

Not long now before I can test it properly...

Edit:

Loving this card up to now. I haven't really tested it tbh though, just played a few rounds of cod4 maxed at 1900x1200 but kept getting killed coz I couldn't take my eye off the fps counter hardly moving from its 125 cap. :D Hopefully I'll have time over the weekend to run a few 1900x1200 benches of various games, if I do I'll post the results in a new thread. :)

Was having crazy artifacting issues on my card but somehow they have gone away - I think it was a driver issue perhaps caused by the fan not spinning up properly or clock speeds not getting set correctly..either way it's seemed to resolve itself - I hope!

Would appreciate it if anyone else can post their Furmark benchmarks (as it seems GPU heavy) to confirm that my card is working correctly:

Furmark v1.4 Fullscreen
Score: 5846
FPS Min:87
FPS Max:132
FPS Avg:98

Res: 1280x1024 / MSAA: 0x
Renderer: ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2
