4K gaming possible at full settings on todays hardware?

Ive been down to 48 fps a few times online on max settings at 1920x1200, (not enjoyable) on 670 sli. Wouldnt fancy trying 4k res even with a couple of 780's in sli. I can envisage a lot of settings having to be dropped.

Online that's a CPU bottleneck, in DirectX i have seen my FPS tank to 38 PFS online no matter what settings i use. In Mantle FPS never fall below 70>, very rarely do they fall below 80.

This shouldn't be possible, we are mere hunter/gathers, not Harry Potters turning sand into transistors and producing all these graphics, it is just too bizarre if you think about the technology going on here.

Still a hunter gatherer here, though ive swapped my spear for a 12 bore shotgun.:D

But on a serious note, theese are exciting times for pc gamers. 4k becoming available, stuff like mantle, true audio, new nv wonder drivers. The list go's on.:)

I might get one of these monitors to run a few benches on and get a "real" 130 fps on BF4 @4K, then again i could overclock the cards and go for a bit more.:p:D

I am surprised you haven't put your order in yet Kaap. Civ 5 looks very very good ;)

Kaap wont be typing for a while, his hands are busy :)
I'm waiting for the AOC Greg, vesa mounts!! :D

Kaap loves some civ :D:p

Yer, that is my biggest gripe in honesty. I was going to have a word with the guys at the marine shops to see if they could do me something to hang the monitor but the stand is small enough to go back far enough to match my Asus monitor. I would prefer the wall mount though :(

4K may help a bit with Civ5, less scrolling around and less work for the GPUs.

Last time I played a huge game on a huge map, I met the victory conditions but carried on playing unfortunately the 512bit bus on my 290Xs ran out of gas and now the game won't load correctly. I also have this problem on my NVidia cards.

So the quest goes on to build a mega system that can run Civ5, by comparrison the Crysis games are an absolute pushover to run compared to a huge game of Civ5.

This serious? I have played a lot of Civ V. It's a top 5 game for me in time played and I've played on a 7950 at 1080/1440 and with my 290 at 1440 and have never had problems... What do you mean the 512 bus ran out of gas?

Very serious

When you play on a huge map and a single land mass (pangea or whatever it's called) and build a huge empire you get problems. What will happen eventually is when you load the map, a lot of your tile improvements will be missing. If you continue to play on even further you will get to a point where the map won't even load.

It is a known problem that the game Devs are aware of but they never got round to fixing it.

What is interesting is seeing how hardware has handled it since the game came out. This is the reason why I have got 5 PCs lol.

Lo wow man... That is interesting. I have never heard or ran into that problem, but now that you said something.... ;) lol

Which PC setup runs it best?

It is a draw between my quad sli Titan/3930k setup and my quadfire 290X/4930k setup.

I don't think the extra GPUs help any with the problem I mentioned earlier and I think the result is the same using a single card or 4 way.
