easy you should take a closer look at page 2 were indeed the 620 does infact beat the apparently far superior i7 in some tests and maybe more if we looked around the web for some comparisons

take a look at the blue and yellow bars

bigjimmyauk, don't do the work for someone who can't be bothered to do it for themselves, we all know what he's like and I take no notice of his *bait* . . . . I suggest you learn how to do the same! :)

i find his ignorance quite amusing and just pointing it out so quickly also makes me chuckle lolz

i'm suprised myself at the performane of the 620

Even though you may feel better for it you must avoid directly insulting someone, even if they are mean to you, just use your force powers and shrug it off, the meaner someone is too you the nicer you should be back to them, try it and see! :D

I'm trying to unite overclockers and not divide them, ultimately this place would be better if we all got along like a big happy familly!

It's *new* and a really good chip for mortals who just want a cutting edge quad-core for gaming, encoding, multi-tasking etc . . . I've got the triple-core version @ 3.6GHz and that absolutely flies so I can only imagine what the AMD® Athlon™ II X4 620 must be like . . . . waaay overkill for most! :D

Socrates was executed primarily beacuse people were so angered by him, so perhaps you should not be surprised by a negative response to the Socratic method :p

I am thrilled to say I have an i7 machine up and running again. It's at stock and temperatures are horrific (60ish idle) because it's running passive, but nonetheless I should have some latency benchmarks for you by the end of today. I believe the software you had in mind was everest, assuming this is available foc which tests would you like me to run, and under what circumstances?

I think there is a free version of Everest available, however it doesn't allow you to see all the results in the Latency benchmarks iirc.

I've managed this, but suspect it's not what you're after.

This is everest home edition 2.2, latency test listed under benchmarks. Running something like 1066mhz cas 8 in single channel mode.

I'd like a link to a better benchmark, and apologise for this one being single channel at stock settings (only just booted this system). I'm sure I can find time to run whichever tests you wish on it :)

Incidentally I'm idling at 60 degrees with an i7 and two 8800gt's in a loop with no radiators in, I think that's brilliant :D

Hey Jon, if you right click on the everest icon then >> Tools >> Cache & Memory Benchmark . . .

Wait until your system is all sorted and whatnot . . . I've made a note that your motherboard is new and working (7th Feb 2010) . . . . be nice to it! :D

Ah, so I was missing something obvious. Cheers. Depending on how some epoxy dries tonight I may be up and running (overclocked and all) by tomorrow evening.

It seems my board never died, it just needed half an hour or so away from the mains. I can't claim to understand this, but it's behaving now, and if the ethernet ports vanish again I'll leave it in a box overnight before rmaing it. All good experience.

Anyway, back on topic. I'm quite happy to run large numbers of benchmarks through my system in comparison with the phenom 2 architecture. Ideally as far as this thread goes it would be helpful to find a like minded person with a 620, but failing that I suppose I'll start up a new thread to see what comparisons are possible. Everest will wait until Sunday Daytime I think though. Good night

Having looked at some benchmarks and prices AMD seems like a good route to go on a budget, I was going to upgrade to a Q9550 but they have gone to £200 at some retailers and seem to be hard to find second hand unless I keep waiting for one to pop up. Currently looking at getting.....

AMD Athlon X4 620
Gigabyte GA-790XTA UD4
4GB Patriot Sector 5 DDR3 PC12800
ATI 5770

Seems like a sensible route to go considering the UD4 offers SATA III USB 3.0 and Crossfire X so I can add another 5770. Will be loosing out on the 8GB ram I have right now but I never actually use over 4GB.

Anyone think its worth waiting for a Q9550 at a decent price? Although I doubt I theres much difference between both options.
