5 "good" GCSE's HARD?

It's frightening - then again GCSEs are far too easy IMO, though I don't know if it's the teachers not doing a good job, the government skewing the figures or if people are genuinely becoming lazier and possibly more stupid? When I was at school nobody had computers really, the internet didn't exist until I was getting to the end of A-Levels where most people did 3-4, though some did 5 and we all had to do a miminum of 10 GCSEs some of us did 13! This was considered very normal. I've seen applications for jobs now and they state minimum of 3-5 grade C GCSEs?! I mean seriously?!

I know that exams aren't necessarily the epitome of education or your ability but they are a relatively good gauge on average of people's aptitudes to learning and development. Obviously everyone learns in different ways and not everyone is going to be an academic but to be proud or accept mediocrity seems really daft to me.

Easy, stop benefits. It tends to be the scum thats never worked and teach their kids wrong from day one, once its drilled into their idiotic minds then theres nothing teachers can do really

Really Good post Atreus - Thanks for the insight :)

I really hate GCSE's - I found them easy and so did absolutely no work in Yr11 - that made it really hard to adjust to actually having to do some work at A-levels - which again I dossed my way through. Then when I got to university and actually had to do some real work I was completely unprepared and flunked out.

Now I take full responsibility for the lack of drive and the drugs etc I got involved with at the time. I still feel let down by the system that let me basically sit on my arse for 3 1/2 years not really having to try. It took me a long time to get any drive and motivation back.

Targetting in schools fails pupils at either end of the spectrum. Getting kids to achieve the most they can should be any schools aim - and it just doesn't feel like that.

Ahahahaha, my old school is on there, nova hreod (formerly hreod parkway, the new name sounds like arse)
They've just spent millions on a brand new school and all.
Tbh though, i drive past there sometimes and it's ridiculously chavved, probably most of them going out to be groundworkers or production line workers because their dad did, and he rents a council house just fine.

well sorry to you people who are "above" us "Scum" who are not so good academically. i am a responsable person, i was aiming for 5 C's when i did my exams. i know i could pass english, but i know i havnt because i didnt like what i had written by the end of the exam and by then it was just too late to start again, so i will get a D or an E. i get my results tomoro. and im pretty sure i will get 5 - 7 C's atleast so i guess im in the safe zone (in my head). imo you cant grade somebody on what they can actually do in 45mins - 1 hour of exam time... why not give everyone as long as they want in the exam hall. then if anyone decides they want to start again, they can. and it whipes out the problem of people running out of time before they finish the exam.

but w.e. i get my results tomoro so may edit the above :D

and pls dont correct my grammar lol^

JMA is located in an extremely deprived area and is mainly a sports academy.
It was created to keep the kids off the streets and at least give them a chance at an education. It seems to be working well.
Better they are there and learning to play football etc than smashing up cars in and around Reading.

This is a perfect example of why school league tables are a waste of time as they don't compare like with like.

I didn't know that, its not exactly good but i prefer it to the alternative.

To be fair these jobs in most cases are trying to cater for the 50 + age groups in some cases as less emphasis was put on coming out with dozens of qualifications and more on a trade or skill (for the majority) so someone may be able to do the job very easily but not have the formals.

Just to add my school is on their- Hinde House 3-16 school with 19%

I passed just fine and am currently at uni so just shows ya :p

I went to a grammar school and we generally had around 95-100% of people get 5 A*-C GCSEs. Even there there were a shocking number of people who didn't care and ****ed about.
Heaven knows what it would be like at somewhere at the bottom of the tables.

It's quite sad that I actually think this may be a genuinely good idea :(

Burnsy

it was meant as a genuine idea, respect for others takes you far in life..

my parents used to smack me if i was being a tool, obviously i don't condone 'beating children'

I love posh people sometimes. That made me giggle.

I blame the standards of teaching. Back in my day I got 10 "good" GCSEs.

Then again I am clever and not an immigrant!

EDIT: The school I used to work at got 14% hahahahahahaha chimps!
