55" TV - LED or OLED

Reading this thread I'm in turmoil all over again! I'm taking delivery of the KS8000 tomorrow and I was even thinking of cancelling in favour of the LG.

But then just read this:

http://www.stuff.tv/my/features/its-screen-showdown-lg-oled-vs-samsung-suhd-vs-sony-triluminos

There really is a bit of a divide and it seems to boil down to which technology you own.

I've more or less managed to convince myself they're both good TVs but when paying over a grand for a TV you want to make the right choice.

Will I regret buying the 8000? Probably not.

Don't read too much into that feature ,they are all 2015 sets ,the 2016 LG OLED sets are a BIG step up in every department

OK so I have two options. (Sorry OP - blatant hijack going on here).

1. Cancel the KS8000 and get the LG OLED
2. Keep the KS8000 and use the £400 change as a contribution to AV receiver + 5.1 set up

I won't lie - the thought of sending back the Samsung is depressing and it will probably be days before a replacement is arranged - if not weeks.

I've got Sky Q coming mid Jan + already have the PS4 Pro. Just want to see 4K HDR in action.

By the way I'm moving from a 2010 32" Samsung. So either TV is going to have a positive impact :)

You'd be daft to buy an LCD if you have the budget for an OLED (even a 1080p panel) as long as it's primary function is HD TV and blurays. Lots of SD content and gaming - get a Samsung KS8000.

Really how so?

If the price is the same, an extra years guarantee is fair enough.....but the customer service can't be that bed. If you need to return a TV, they replace it.....job done. Not much more they can do is there?

Go with John Lewis (they price match).

I wouldn't touch currys with a barge pole. Them and the shop they co-own are notorious for terrible after sales service.

Whereas John Lewis will go beyond the call of duty to make you happy

Whereas I've had my soundbar and Panasonic 58" 902 led tv replaced twice without even a blink of the eye and I bought mine from Currys...so yeh no they are fine, I've yet to have an issue with them.

If you go in and demand they do this and that, when they have to follow certain procedures then you still can't get it through your thick skull then I don't blame them for being arsey.

I should know as I've spent a few yrs in retail management and any ******** customers that came in, I would just make their lives more difficult by wasting their time, making them wait extra long in order to give them their refund or exchange.

From my experience with Currys, the staff are clueless themselves, which is where the problems begin, and thereon the god awful policies in place in comparison to other retailers.

Most content will be HD/4K. Hardly any SD but yes to lots of gaming via various consoles.

Been really thinking about this for the last hour. Can't believe the KS8000 is getting delivered in the morning.

My heart says stick with the Samsung so I can set it up and start using it right away - but there's a real nagging I should cancel and go with the LG OLED55B6V.

Urgh. First world problems but I could really do without this :(

Thought the oled came with a sky q subscription? Potential saving there to throw a spanner in your works

Even if that were true you're still doing the exact same thing I am looking at these forums. Guess it doesn't matter how much you have after all :o

It does, £60 install but you get 2TB Sky Q Silver box and one extra Sky Q mini box free for 12 months.

You only get the original bundle though, so I ended up spending £18 a month to get the Sky Boxsets which also gives you 53 HD channels.

Well OP - my KS8000 has just arrived. I've decided to keep it but invested in a new Denon AV receiver and speakers with the change (and a little more added on top!). :)

Picked up an LG OLED55B6V earlier today for my old man. So far looks stunning, and thats just on normal Sky HD!

Sorting out Sky Q 4K for him soon.

The blacks are stunning! They are literally black!

Thanks for the advise though chaps

KS8000 = poor man's OLED.

Honestly, if you're spending over £1K on a TV, there's no reason not to choose the OLED55b6v. Why pick the Samsung when an OLED isn't that much more?

Both people I know who picked up a KS8000 were happy with them until they saw the LG. No brainer guys.

Glad I went with the LG. Should be future proofed for a while!
I'm sure there will be better OLEDs in the future, although I'm not sure what they could improve drastically!
