5700X3D and AM4 pricing

Running a 5700x and keep looking at x3d cpus, I should imagine the only real improvement seen in games would be in my sons pc when he gets my old 5700x to replace his 2600x

A few posts up I stated that going from a 5600X to a 5800X3D gave a large improvement in most games at 1440p. This is with a 7900XT but any GPU such as 3070 or 6800 will also see an increase.

So unless you are using a very low performance GPU, you will see an improvement.

My plan is to replace my aging 6700k with a second hand 58 or 5900. The price of new kit for AM5 is just keeping me out.

Long gone are the days where I could justify an upgrade every year or even 2. I blame the Q6600. My longer cycles all started with that.

5700x to an X3D depends on your GPU, 3070 or below? Probably won't make much of a difference likely better 1% lows though.

Yep, I only recently retired one of those in my older rig. That rig now houses a trusty 3770k. :)
I'm not 100%, but I think my more recent (relative) history is a Q6600 with a 8800GTS, then a 2500k with a 6950, then the 6700k with a 980ti and right now its a 6700k with a 7800 xt. Just waiting on the budget to free up to do the chip so I can forget about it for another decade haha.

There are games where you'll see a decent improvement even with a relatively slow GPU. I'm still using a 1080 Ti and upgrading to a 5800X3D was a huge boost to lows in World of Warcraft, for example, even coming from a 5800X. There are other graphically lighter games like Factorio which also love the cache.

Sadly, my 5800X3D decided to up and die on me out of the blue a few days ago, a mere three months after I bought it. Just started spewing hundreds and thousands of WHEA errors (CPU L1 cache errors specifically according to Hwinfo) and randomly rebooting for no apparent reason even at stock settings. I had to grab a cheap 4500 just so I could get my system up and running again ASAP (and rule out my motherboard being the problem, which it did). Something like a 3600 would have been better, but that would have been middle of next week at best. Waiting to see what AMD's RMA process is like now.

Yep, I have a feeling that my main rig (9900k) might see a 8800X3D or Rocket Lake upgrade over the next 12 months and then I'm done for another decade or more. Mind you, if the PS5Pro turns out to be good and reasonably priced, I might just skip all and any future gaming PC upgrades..

I actually pulled the trigger on the 5700X3D, but it turned out the checkout of OCUK was in chaos earlier this week and the purchase was unsuccessful

Then found a new 5800X3D for a price just a bit higher, thinking I should take the gamble that I can under volt and PBO offset it enough to make sure it runs cool and quiet with my 140 mm AIO. Decided to sleep on it, but the next morning the price had bounced back up.

My trigger was playing The Last of Us. Walked from a no NPC area to a high NPC area, and suddenly my 7900 XT was only running 85-95% utilisation and dropping in to the mid 60 fps range, whereas before it was 75-80s+. That was with my 7900 XT undervolted and max power boost at -10%.

Decided at that moment a CPU upgrade was required.

Now in no man's zone as both the 5700X3D and 5800X3D remain just a tad too pricey to pull the trigger on. Not even 100% sure the X3Ds will sort the drop I saw in TLOU. I looked for info online about the game and mostly see people talking about the issues from its train wreck launch where every hardware configuration was a stuttering mess.

Damn, there's a good advertisement for making sure you only buy an X3D chip new and not second hand / B-grade for a 10% discount.

Hope AMD gets a replacement sorted for you with no fuss.

It was collected by DHL earlier today actually and is on its way to the Netherlands. AMD provided a prepaid label and a link to arrange a collection after a few questions about the troubleshooting I'd performed, so it's been a fairly smooth process so far. Hopefully it'll all work out.

Depends on resolution. At 1080p you are more likely to see a big improvement. You will also see much better 1% lows

I am trying to make a similar choice. Don't see the point of the 5700x3d at current pricing. Think I will move to AM5 at this rate.

i went from a 5800x3d to my 7700x and had a little drop in performance. depending on the use case the 57/5800x3d are better unless getting a 7800x3d

Depends on the games you play, too.

I have three gaming rigs. One has a 6800XT and 12700KF (desk at home). The second is a 11700KF and 6950XT (again at home, this is my TV rig) and then a (now) 5700X3D and 6900XT Toxic rig at my mother's (the away rig). I went from a 3950x, and the difference at 1440p in PUBG (UE) is huge.

I wondered why this PC was 40-50 FPS slower at the same settings at 1440p, now I have my answer. Put the 5700X3D in and it is now the fastest PUBG rig I have. Mostly because I have the FE 6950XT on air, and the 6900XT Toxic is actually faster.

Pulled the trigger (again ) on the 5700X3D. This swung it for me, particularly the temps and power consumption compared to its bigger brother

my 5700x3d is a monster but it's not all rainbows and butterflies for some reason at 1440p battlefield 2042 max's out my CPU and hold back my GPU.

but most games it just sits at 50c about 50% usage and around 60w's. it did feel like a big upgrade from my 3600

Someone actually tested this at last, it's quite the difference! I don't know why HWUnboxed and Gamers Nexus left this out of their reviews.

That 300mhz reduced boost on the 57 is a big difference but it still does well. I would hope CO would let it hit its 5.1Ghz as it didn't seem to do so on those tests.

all X3d chips are clock locked.

Because they're full of **** biased click bait sponsored shills with an ulterior motive? Just like 99% of YT'er's looking for something to moan/brag about?
been saying this for years, HWUnboxed have been seen multiple times to rig bench's

I skipped through the video and it seems the 5700x3d was locked at 4050mhz, max boost should be 4100mhz. The 5800x3d also seemed to be 50mhz under its max boost.

OK, 50mhz isn't much but it's something that CO could possibly help it hit.
