Hi

I'm thinking of getting 2 5770's to replace my GT260 - 216. My motherboard is a gigabyte p35 - ds4. Is the p35 chipset ok to crossfire these will i be limited with the 2nd PCI express slot (x4) or will I see a decent improvement over my 260 ?

Thanks

Im gaming at 1900 * 1200 so according to that article i will on see a 4% performance loss on a x4 PCI express slot thats great news.:)

Will both the PCI express slots default to x4 if I crossfire 2 5770's ?

That link is for PCI-E 2.0, the P35 chipset is probably 1.0.
IIRC you will make a sizeable hit using a x16/x4, 10-15%, which would make Xfire 5770 some 35% faster than GTX260.

Paradigm, Taken what cards did you upgrade from ?

I just want to make sure the upgrade from a 260-216 will give me a decent performance upgrade before i shell out £240 quid :)

I was running P7P55D motherboard with 5770 crossfire which has x16/x4 slots and tbh the prerformance was pretty rubbish the second card might as wel have bene on my shelf . I replaced the board with the P7P55D PRO which has x8/x8 for crossfire and the difference is unreal tbh. I would stay clear of using x4 to crossfire.

I would'nt run crossfire on a P35 board. That 4x pci-e 1.0 slot will give a big performance hit. Either wait for a 5850 to come into stock or get a new board as well.

This, is a funny one..

I found an article the other day on the intel site why I swear showed only a 4-6% loss of performance with the P35 board.

I'm googling like mad to find it again!!!!

I dont really want to upgrade the board as well at this point its still performs really well with my 260 - 216 q6600 at 3.4.

So is best to stick to a single card like a 5850 would i see better performance with a single card than if i was to xfire 5770's on this board ?

the asus p7P55D should run at 8x 8x just like the pro version so i think you may have just not set it up right. I dont think it ajust the channels automaticly on the p7p55d.

Yup, 4x on a 1.X board gives a sizeable performance hit, I tried it with CF 4850's while waiting for my X38 to arrive, difference is night and day.

If you want to go CF you really need an 8x 1.X slot minimum for the 2nd card.

P45/P55/X38/X48/X58 preferably.
