58% Failure

The logical man within me is screaming for our very own OCUK xbox failure rate poll, just to see how this small community compares to the figures on that survey - if its similar then we know there could be some truth in it.

Personally i feel a failure rate over 10% is abysmal, and its clearly higher than that from what i've seen/heard.

Yeah, and everytime its the same old "well those who have had problems are more likely to vote" argument, although why people feel the need to defend an innanimate object made by a huge multi billion pound organisation is beyond me. To do it all again would be pointless.

Original 15 month old console still going strong btw :o

Doesn't surprise me at all. I'm on my Fourth now which is throwing a hissy fit and will surely die soon. Everyone i know who has a 360 are on atleast their second console, with a couple on their Third/Fourth. If MS actually replaced consoles with new ones instead of repairing duffers, then I'm sure the failure rate would be lower.
As for people with an axe to grind, sure they're going to reply to the survey. But, there are atleast four of you here saying something like

'Those figures are rubbish, people who have faulty 360's are much more likely to take the survey'

So in MS defence you'd reply to the poll and state your support by saying you haven't had a problem wouldn't you?

58% is not even close to the real figure. If it was this high there would be lawsuits flying around all over the place by now (specially in the USA).

I think I read somewhere that the industry average for this type of device to be just under 3%. I think MS have admitted they are above this average. No-one knows how much over but It ain't 55% over.

I think 10% is more realistic. Even though I think there is a problem with reliability, I don't think an internet based survey will give even an inkling as to the real figures as there is too much bias either from MS haters or MS fanboys. Either one would sway the figures out of loyalty or hatred.

My biggest problem with MS at the moment is the lack of infomation they reveal:

A lot of people want to know:

- how many consoles fail
- how the live members are broken down (gold silver etc)
- how many marketplace sales they make
- how many videos are downloaded

They never reveal any figures for any of this, just coy marketing BS with percentages etc. They just claim that all of it is successful and the fans swallow it blindly without any figures to back it up.

Weird.

The only way a survey is going to become remotely close to fair is to say pick 5000 random owners and ask if theirs have failed.

Any kind of voluntary thing will always get distorted, sometimes by annoyed owners, sometimes opposing fanboys etc. Those numbers are as good as worthless.

Funny how this poll is being ignored now, but the one in the OP is fact :D

chances are the OCUK poll is full of MS anti fan boys aswell as MS fanboys. And can't be taken too seriously.

The one from the beginning of this poll can only be taken by people with 360 Gamertags as far as i'm aware.

Still 99 consoles out of 456 aint good

But its free to make a gamertag, so we can rubbish that poll too then :D

Let's say that MS have a 5% failure rate...that's 500,000 consoles. So it's obviously going to seem like a lot when people come on the web. That's like saying the whole of europe got one big faulty batch.

It's worth noting that these kind of surveys are much more likely to be shown to those who have recently complained of failures; those who had a perfect working box are far less likely to see the survey, as they've not had an issue to chase over the internet.

at the end of the day, regardless of the failure rate, myself, and a lot of ocukers, have had many different consoles, and treat them very well, and the 360 has been the only one to break, and in some cases, multiple times
