5800x to 5800x3D?

@BUDFORCE

Got my 7800X3D installed this weekend, upgrading from a 5900X and with a 3080 and in PUBG, It's NOT worth it.

5900X- AVG FPS 210 0.1% 144
7800X3d- AVG FPS 209 0.1% 142

seems PUBG does not benefit from 3D cache.

my 5900X was running a minus CO and the RAM was highly tuned, the 7800X3d system is stock with 6000Mhz CL30 RAM

Ok perfect.

Thanks mate, appreciated.

That's exactly the information I was after, I won't bother then.

I basically only play PUBG and sometimes Minecraft, cities skylines 2 but really was only interested in squeezing a bit more out of PUBG.

On what resolution are you gaming, if you don’t mind me asking?

The single thread performance on the 7800X3D might help in Minecraft? But is it worth it...

You seem awfully confident that the CPU's are fake or that there must be something wrong with them. I've bought several CPU's, RAM kits and headphones from there and it's always been fine.

The only potential issue I could see is if you had to claim warranty on something beyond the 30 day MBG, CPU's are a fairly safe bet though.

After checking some discussion on these on HotUKDeals that is more convincing than the reviews on AE, it really does seem they're legit. Someone was even able to successfully return a failed one for a full refund.

Can't think of any precedent for something like this PC hardware-wise. A massive undercutting of price compared to domestic retailers, yet still the real thing it seems.

Unfortunately it just shows that we seem to get charged over the odds in the UK on some parts, it’s the same with some motherboards that I’ve been looking at where I can get them imported from the US for less.

It's crazy, not sure if oem destined chips are just being resold by someone. Not always crazy cheap and of course warranty could be an issue which concerns me most, but how about a 7500F for £98 ?! That's surely below cost for retailers? (I know the 7500F isn't sold in retail channels but it's an example)

It must be that. 7000 series AMD CPUs are amazingly priced here, although saying that the boxed versions aren't much higher.
I was hoping the 8700G would get the same treatment, but the APUs always hold value here.

My upgrade path has been a bit mad.

3900X->5800x->5950x->5800X3D->7800X3D

The change to 5800X3D was massive for FS2020. Then there was another noticeable leap to 7800X3D.

I would suggest you give the X3D a go :)

Its interesting to read this thread, I've preordered a 5800X3D off the main site, just waiting for it to arrive . I've recently got back into gaming on my PC and been through a bit of a whirlwind upgrading stuff. Used to have an i5-6600K that I built eons ago. Was running that with an EVGA 1080 FTW2. Then saw a TUF X570+ with an installed 3700X going for a fair price and went for that. Had that all of 2 months before I fell for a Crosshair VIII Hero off ebay and now waiting on the 5800X3D to finish it off. Looking forward to building the "new" system (waiting for Black Friday to pick up a 7900XT/X).

I do plan on jumping to AM5 towards the end of next year and might then repurpose this system into a living room PC if I can find an X570 ITX board in good condition off ebay or something.

(Also hello, this is my first post it seems since joining up in 2021!)

the 5800x3d will keep you going for a long time. I'd certainly wait and see what the 9800x3d has to offer, when it comes out. I'm not sure the AM5 is worth the upgrade otherwise at the moment. I can see myself skipping AM5

I went for the X570 and 5800X3D combo mostly as so far what I saw with the 7000 Ryzens didn't really fill me with excitement.

My only gripe with building the X570 system is that I'll have the same issue as I did with the i5 6600K, I'll be stuck on a dead platform. Which is why I did think to myself that if the 9800X3D looks good I could turn my current system into a living room PC and then jump on a newer more "modern" AM5 platform. With the hope that AMD will continue to support it as well as they have with AM4.

But in all likelihood the 5800X3D is going to serve me well for gaming. The only productivity work I do is processing images from the microscope at work which to be honest is only really playing with the levels to make what I'm analysing easier to see. So gaming is the main use case for me

i THINK AM6 is scheduled for 2026, so definitely worth waiting IMO, or you'll be upgrading AM5 at the end of next year and it TOO will be a dead platform

Its a marketplace so there are different sellers but broadly it's much safer than it seemingly used to be.
Again though warranty is my personal concern. £190 from OCUK with the 3yr warranty is still (IMO) a good value part.

The 5700x3d seems to be available even cheaper now, I wonder if that will filter through to the UK pricing? Seems like a no brainer for gamers on AM4

I’ve ordered a 5700X3D for £126 simply because I can sell my 5800X for £130-140 so it’s a free 20% upgrade.
