Just worked out that after all back orders have shipped on the PowerColor part we will have 20 pcs spare.

On the Sapphire we will have 40 pcs Spare.

Its going to be very interesting to see where these cards can clock to, especially with a little voltage tweaking with msi/rivatuner/asus app. If you can use the same voltage and hit the same clocks as the 5870, they make the 5870 obsolete. All benchies i've seen show same clocked cards perform identically, despite the lack of shaders. People were worried about memory bandwidth(which is odd as bandwidth has nothing to do with speed of computation, you just need enough bandwidth to cope with texture size + any aa/af increases in bandwidth requirement.) the card seems ROP limited, as every ATi card for 5 years has been. The fact that the ROP speed gives identical performance on 10% less shaders isn't surprising, nor that overclocking the memory on either card by 10% offers 1-2% increase in performance. While overclocking the core by circa 10% gives a circa 10% boost in fps.

Now the only reason the 5870 might be better is it should have the ability to run other gpu accelerated apps on one cluster of shaders, so the two extra clusters could theoretically be used, almost completely performance hitting free, for physics, or other work. So the 5870 might pull ahead in DX11 in games that use havok/bullet gpu acceleration in the future, but not all that likely.

The 5850 is the card to get it would seem, if only both had 48-64 rops, they'd be insanely powerful.

It's posts like this that keep ocuk above the competition. Thanks for the update, was gonna phone after lunch for an eta on the 5850.

looks interesting, im sure i read you can flash the bios to the asus one so you can use the volt mod software - i might not need it anyway as you say to get pretty good overclocks :)
