5870/5850 User Benchmarks, Thoughts & Feelings

Hmm, I finished a blast of Crysis ten minutes ago and CCC is showing current values are still high, not in idle mode and temp is 60C. It keeps flicking down to idle mode and then back up....

A minute later...

Seems it is jDownloader doing it, when it is on the taskbar it kicks up to full speed but load is still 0% when minimised to tray CCC drops to idle mode and temp to 43C.

I can actually hear my HDD working now, which is annoying :D;)

GTA4, I tucked this one away for later while I had my 512MB 4870.

Looks like the quad has the biggest effect in GTA4....Why the hell did a take a screenshoh of notepad and uypload it to imageshack when I could have just copied/pasted it like you did...like I even did in the original GTA4 thread? I blame lack of sleep! :P

Yes interesting isnt it, even at those high settings if I had a dual core wolfdale at 3.6ghz it would be holding GTA4 back, I'm quite suprised at that.

It's a nice card, I did try a 4870x2 but preferred GTX280 to that whereas this is definitely a keeper, clearly faster than the GTX280 but also cool/quiet.

Add to that low power usage/DX11 and all the other improvements it's great value at £300.

Pulling 300W with Furmark, so more like 250w gaming normal situation.

Damn, an overclocked i5 and a 5870 pulling only 300W. My [email protected] and a mildly overclocked GTX280 hovers at 470-490W under full load. Makes me wonder if it might be worth the electric bill to, cough, let's call it upgrade my poor poor components up to today's standards :D

If you run both pc's at full load for 3 hours, the one with the 5870 & i5 will save you approximately 5p. Assuming you game every day of the year for 3 hours (pretty hard for most people to do), the total saving will be ~£18.

How much did you spend on that i5, mobo & 5870:D? After 35-40 years the entire rig will pay for itself.

....I know the performance is much better.

You might want to put the overall quality back to very high, custom makes it hard to compare to older runs otherwise.

Your crysis bench has the objects set to high..

Sorry guys didn't realise it had taken the recommended settings from in game, I've now redone the benchmark and tbh it's made 2FPS difference, that's the kind of horsepower these suckers have
