5870...is it really worth it?

Certainly not worth it for me with a monitor that runs @ 1280x1024.

Infact, For the games that I play , I'm doing fine with an 8800 GTS 320! :o:D

really ? I thought the 5850 won't be that far behind at 1900 ? even with AA

and its 50% cheaper :)

If i had a monitor with his resolution then i think i would actually go for the 5850, so yeah ignore my post on the 5870, 5850 is the way forward.

Well seeing as there are no games that use DX11 yet I would buy the 4890 - by the time DX11 games come out the 5870 will either have dropped significantly in price or new cards will have come out that are better anyway.

Not being any Dx11 games out is irrelevant though, as the 5800's are much faster than previous cards in Dx9/10. :)

well yes i think thas the one im gonna buy....because its just not worth spending 300 pounds for 5870...

i think 4890 vapor-x is spot on

Be mad to buy slower, old tech now imo, the 5850 blows the 4890 away, and as said above, its only £200, and not much slower than the 5870.

If you're going to buy the VapourX you may as well spend the extra £40 and get a 5850.

It's most definitely worth the extra £40 over the VapourX.

I do think the 5800s are overpriced at the moment. They're good cards but the price lets them right down.

The 5870 needs to be sub £250 and the 5850 needs to be sub £150 for them to be 'value'.

No it's actually 50% cheaper.

What you're thinking of is it's 66% of the cost.

£200 = 66% of £300

Price difference between them is £100 which = 50% cheaper as £100 is 50% 0f £200.

That would be correct if the 5870 was £200.

The price difference between 5850 and 5870 is 33%.

Taking the highest price from both £300 makes the £200 item 33% cheaper. 50% would make the 5850 at £150.

£0 (0%) ------- £100 (33%) ----- £150 (50%) ---- £200 (66%) -------- £300 (100%)

I'm not talking price difference. I'm talking relative difference. £100 is 50% of £200. Therefore the 5870 is 50% more expensive than a 5850.

I think the 4890 is an excellent card no doubt. If there is a deal to be had for closer to £100 the its worth it. However cant personally see the point of paying £150+ for a 4890 when you can get a 5850 that will kick its ass FOR £200 , and support DX11 when the games arise. Its a little investment. I am seriously tracking the 5850. After Xmas see them for £160 i will grab one.
