5950X Prices

Is it about a new build? If not then 2nd hand as said is probably only route to cheapness as the am4 only upgrade route is those current chips. The retail sellers will most likely keep them at same prices or more as they’ll go in the end due to people wanting a last boost before changing to new motherboard.
That was my understanding but if not then we have no context on what board or chip moving from to compare or really data what needed for so took the looking at 5950x as needing new setup and that best at min. But with that the OP said they wont do SH as no warranty etc.

Thanks all, I'm upgrading from a 3900x on an x470 board. Want to do a moderate upgrade without having to reinstall everything hence just going for CPU swap. Also not going for a 7000 series as I don't want the teething troubles that are involved with early adopting.

Im wondering if its gonna be cheaper and better to go with a raptorlake i5 and use my existing ddr4 ram and sell on my old 5600x and mobo or get something like a 5900x. On one hand raptorlake gonna give big boost to single thread but maybe am4 will see a zen4 cpu somewhere down the line?

I am in the same boat as you, I have a x570 board and 3900x. I am waiting to upgrade cpu to 5950x which will last another 5 year’s minimum. Nothing I can will max it out and I don’t need the new chipsets.

I picked up a 5950X for £400 and will sit out this upcoming gen (I hope!).

Likewise, sticking to my 5900x and see how things go. With the £ tanking against the $, prices are going to be too high for too many.

Now I'm kicking myself for not buying when I saw the 5950x at 480 a couple of months ago... Any views on whether to buy now or wait for black Friday? Can't get a clear answer on whether production has ceased or not.

I just brought a 5950X new for less than what I paid for my 5800X at launch, real world performance are you going to notice any difference between Ryzen 5000 vs 7000, I dont think so, synthetic benchmarks shows performance gains, and overclocking on LN2 shows 6ghz+ but like I said, we live in the real world where we dont have nitrogen tankers outside our homes to keep our PC's cool, and dont run benchmarks all day long.

I priced up a new 7000 system, which included a 7600X, you would then need a new motherboard and new ram too, possibly a new cooler depending on how your current cooler mounts, if it doesnt mount to your AM4 bracket now and uses its own backplate, then you'll need a new cooler as the backplate on AM5 isnt removable, and maybe even a new PSU, came out over 3 times more than I recently paid for my 5950X, thanks but no thanks, a youtube video I watched which made me laugh showed 5000 vs 7000 chips, but they also included the 5800X3D which was keeping up with the new 7000 chips, i'll see if I can find it again.
