Will have a look thanks.

Still looking at this, but only four service stamps. Low mileage though?

Low mileage mobility car means its either done the occasional really long trip or lots of 2 mile trips which cause high wear and tear.

The rule of thumb is that when you're looking at the lower end of the market, buy on condition not age or mileage (within reason of course). Low mileage isn't always a good thing.

Yup totally agree. The problem I have is my extremely limited time to find something and the fact that I only care about this car for 6 - 12 months or so. As long as it gets through that and isn't worth £500 at the end I'm happy.

Ended up looking at this. Quite a bit over budget but it looks very clean in and out.

They're closing soon so going to have a test drive tomorrow afternoon. Boring spec but cheap to run and fix and would be able to keep this a few years.

id rather have a focus

Must admit, that Astra leaves me a little cold. If it was my money I'd stay inside the origin budget and look at that Focus.
Which one? The low mileage motability one? Doesn't matter what I suggest. I'm getting convinced it's a bad idea haha. I have to compromise somewhere in this market. This astra looks immaculate with fsh and good mot history. Comes with warranty. Yes it's pricey but I'd hold on to this for longer being newer. The focus would have to be ditched after a year.

Same - whilst a MK2 focus is hardly a dynamic and engaging driving experience, it's at least better than feeling your soul being literally sucked away, which is what happens if you have the misfortune of driving an Astra J.

There's no 'right' choice when it comes to second hand cars, just luck.

I was referring to the Motabitity Focus .

just get a focus, they will be easier to re sell and hold better value, and they will look after you

i paid 5K 8 years ago, and its still going really strong
no cambelt (1.8) so cost me nothing much really, just fuel

How long is the warranty? What does it cover?

At this end of the market, all cars come with a warranty - it's called your standard consumer rights (30days money back, 6 months repair/Part money back), and Credit Card Section 75 protection

It is all luck I know. Not my first time buying used. First time buying used in this god awful market. I need something urgently and I'm stressed to hell. I don't care if a Vauxhall is boring; I'm coming from a model 3. Everything in this range is going to be boring. All I care about is a car that doesn't fall apart isn't disgusting and smelly (everything I'm looking at with 80k+ is like something died in it), and is comfortable ish to drive with air con and Bluetooth etc. Basics. There is next to nothing out there under 6k that meets that.

I would certainly consider an Astra, I don't think they are boring, I think they look better than the Focus. From a cursory inspection the one you found does look pretty clean.

Thanks. £1500 for the astra with a more modern interior and a couple of extra amenities though. In this climate the astra isn't going to be worth £2k in 6 months. I certainly won't get 6k for it selling it on but it'll hold value better than it would a couple of years ago.
