How Many CPU Cores Do I Need For Gaming?
6 cores are enaugh for gaming? do you believe that 6 and 8 cores will be enaugh in the next 3 years΄; or do yoy believe that 12 cores will be the future in some years from now??
Do you expect to see games optimised for 8 core CPUs along with their usage in the consoles?
At this point, 6 cores balance out the games well.
Games utilize high ipc/mhz basically and then use 2 cores that boost on workloads.
so the question is when are two cores like 8 core cpu then useful to add and that is whenever 6 cores becomes the limitation.
games optimize for current consoles but also PC users dont have 6 cores as the market basically are 2 to 4 cores still.
so if you make money making games you ensure the most common hardware is the target.
so yea 6 cores will be enough until 8 cores gain an edge which may or may not happen the next 6 years.
Game development are 2 to 5 years.
The fear many have about future proof (does not work) the answer is, hardware is cheap to upgrade to nowadays.
Intel charged $1700 for 10 cores 5 years ago and amd charge half $800 for 16 cores today being faster in every way.
To many have short memory when it was just 5 years ago.
Technology advances and it usually becomes cheaper for better performance.
Unless you live in america and the internet providers keeps messing you up as they dont want to invest in better hardware.
