Looking to buy a new TV and currently weighing up the options.

Shortlist at the moment stands at;

Samsung 65KS9500
Samsung 65KS9000
Panasonic - if I could find a 65DX902B I would be interested, but can only find 65EX750B and not sure how this really stacks up

needs to be under 2k and preferably available on 0% for a year to sneak it past the missus

from what I can find, this years samsung Qdot are not as good as last years, but open to suggestions

also just spotted the sony XE9305 for £2200, so guess I could stretch if it is worth it?

Personally I'd go for a smaller, higher quality TV- OLED, rather than larger and (IMO crap quality) Samsung LED backlight LCD.
I think the Samsung panels are good, but the electronics and software behind them are pretty damn buggy.

You should be able to get a 50" OLED at or under £2k

not an option, my living room is 4m wide so viewing distance is at least 3m and a 50" would look silly in the 70" hole the current 60" TV sits in

50" would mean we'd have to sit on the floor in front of the TV to get any benefit from going to 4k, so no point

we currently have a plasma based off internet "experts" saying they are better but we've been very dissapointed with the brightness with anything other than watching it at night with all the lights off and oled seems to be a similar kettle of fish at the moment

I'm in the same boat here Andy. My only advice would be to make sure it supports the HLG HDR standard, as that's the one which the BBC/Sky etc have settled on for broadcasting :)

I'm resigned to keeping my 105" projector setup til I can drop on a s/h 65in LG OLED for a good price.

Found one in Northampton for 1999.95 - https://www.ortonsaudiovisual.com/index.php/panasonic-tx-65dx902b-4k-pro-led-smart-tv.html

(without prejudice) I thought the 902's were nonetheless a bit of a panel lottery, so would check they have robust post-sales.
if you wait and pounce, can get a 58dx902 or 65dx750 for about £1k from (robust) Pan outlet on ebay.

We've just ordered a Sony KD-65XE9305. John Lewis recently dropped the price to £2199 (was £2500 a couple of months ago). There's also a free Sony UHD Bluray player thrown in (or a soundbar worth £369)

We were going to pay £299 for the Bluray player anyway so the actual cost of the TV was £1900 . Not bad considering this set launched at £3000 back in March this year.

Took a long hard look at OLED but it's not yet finished and there are apparently issues with LG panels starting to lose green pixels early. Not paying £4500 to be a Beta Tester thanks (it would've had to have been the Sony A1)

We actually preferred the picture quality of the 9305 to the A1 anyway. The brightness levels are astounding on UHD - way better than OLED can achieve. Blacks not quite as deep but we can live with that.

tbh once looking at 65" I'd go with a PJ. With my 50" plasma the size will be a problem to fit in a room in the perfect place, so I think drop down screen would work better, and should get a larger image than 65" for your money.

I have a wall mount and recessed area for the tv already which is 70" and already has a 60" TV in it so 65" will fit perfect. Consequently we dont have space in the same area to fit a drop down. If a plasma or oled TV isnt bright enough for normal day use then I'm pretty sure a projector is going to struggle aswell. Our living room is an extension of the house so it was designed from the get go to be able to house a large TV in the perfect place for the long sofa on the opposite wall.

If I ever get round to converting the garage to a games/movies room then yeah, but not for primary family use in the day room.

Woah. Good luck with lifting up a 65XE9305 to wall mount if you buy one. It's a heavy beast.

We're sitting ours on a Yamaha YRS1000 sound bar stand. Bought it 7 years ago when we thought we were going for a Kuro (but that didn't happen). It sounds rubbish but it's still inkeeping with the room (aluminium uprights match the Naim Fraim) and it's the right height (500mm) So...

Its actually a few hundred grams lighter than the plasma that is up there now - yes its a 2 man job to swap them over

Yeah. We were astonished when it turned out to be 4kg heavier than our current telly (Sony 46x4500) Always thought that we'd be going lighter. Still. The stand can "stand" it so to speak.

Quite looking forward to having a new AV amp to go with it too. Fingers crossed everything will go smoothly with the Onkyo trade in (going from a 616 to a 646 - as per their offer)

Loved the 616 and the Q acoustics 7000 but it kept flaking out on HDMI and the 646 can do 4k and atmos etc. Too good a deal to pass up really. £158 to change?

I digress.

I've got the 78KS9500(yes I know it's bigger) the picture is fantastic.
I do have the calibration settings for my TV if you ever need them.

Wow. Really? Little wonder those Plasmas suck so much juice (so glad we never went plasma - I care for the planet)

Anyway. Without wishing to sound like a complete smartassknowitall.

Handling a 65" would be slightly more awkward due to the err actual physical size of the thing

The existing tv is heavier and 60", i can't see it being any more difficult with 2 hefty lads on he job. I can lift the existing TV down on my own if needs be, its just putting it back up is too fiddly to get the wall mount lined up.
