65" 4K HDR TV - under £2k

how widespread the reports are
so, indulge us, what was the best reference you found substantiating this

sorry - but that piece of journalism ...
Bad news for everyone who wanted to get an OLED TV soon. Some industry experts have told Fudzilla that current generation OLED TVs suffer from a built in defect and that the companies are seeing a lot of TVs being returned after a year of use

I had seen a theory that oled costs are high because LG are protecting themsleves against possible future claims, but have never seen evaluation of manufacturing BOM cost ( I have not for LED either)

The rtings ongoing burn in test is the best I have seen to get a handle on real data,
equally if the UK which publication, ran a test, that could be credible.

Run this on your OLED. http://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/picture-quality/image-retention-burn-in
I did when I had it and the retention was very bad. That's why I sent it back.

Utter **** your talking.

I’m regularly in the avforums B6 thread and nobody talks about burn in.

I’ve been using my 65” B6 with zero issues.

https://www.avforums.com/threads/oled-screen-burn.2056624/ 8 pages
https://www.avforums.com/threads/lg-oled-image-retention.2121395/ oled 65 inch
https://www.avforums.com/threads/oled-image-retention.2005177/ yet another one
https://www.avforums.com/threads/oled-b6-is-this-normal.2108113/#post-25162044 another with video proof

Thanks. There's also lots of people talking about losing a specific colour like mostly blue and even green, which isnt burnin/image retention its the blue pixels gradually losing intensity at a much faster rate throwing thw whole image/calibration off over time.

Even if that were true (see above), that still doesnt make them under £2k for a 65 inch as per my requirements in the OP and thread title. Its a completely pointless argument anyway.

I dont get how anyone can suggest a 50% over budget suggestion is going to get taken in any way seriously.

See above. I dont have to justify anything to you, the tv in question is 50% over my budget so it is instantly discounted, i dont care how good it is. Add to that *I* have seen enough info to cause *me* not to want to overspend my budget by 50% whilst also taking that risk.

Thanks, so the first 8 page thread is most of the evidence, there are not many contributors compared to the other avforums threads.
Examples of folks that have experienced persistant burn-in from static/yellow graphics or movie side bars (that was a new one for me) are few.

Oled's have been in the market for a few years, so folks must have clicked up a few 10Khr's useage, but nonetheless no one seem to have practical examples of permanent colour degradation.

Agree a 10yr guarantee would put issue to bed, however even within 5years, had found this thread interesting where LG said tv had been mis-used, displaying static graphics, so were not fixing it.

as you say, if you must have 65inches sub £2K,
but it is always interesting to know if the consensus is that OLED picture is so good that the trade-off of a 55inch OLED, sub £2K is what most folks would make.

Yes, LG refusing warranty inside the 5 years was a big put off for me, particularly as I've already had the same issue with LG support on 2 other TV's bought around the same time as each other and both failed in warranty (LG seem to like pushing out updates on 2-3 year old TV's that breaks big chunks of the menu, hence why I am getting rid of one of them now)

55" isnt a trade off for me due to viewing distance making 4k 55" basically pointless, which was explained on the first few posts on page 1.

Sony is in and up on the wall, not had a chance to play with calibration yet but out of the box it is simply stunning, brightness is great an no annoying reflections like the outgoing LG

I don't really get the whole 'viewing distance isn't enough to make a difference'.

That's like saying there's no point having a screen with a higher resolution than Apple's "retina" - which is complete rubbish. You might not be able to distinguish individual pixels from a certain point, but that doesn't mean that your eyes can't detect a difference in sharpness and smoother lines (which it can).

Even at my roughly 3M from my 1080P TV, I can notice a difference between a 4K TV and my 1080P one. Things just look sharper, even if I can't see the individual pixels.

Anyway, which TV have you ended up going for Andy?
