6700k vs 5820k

its the CPU Forums equivalent of lighting the torch paper and stepping back to watch the fireworks fly................

yep its another 5820k vs 6700k thread..........

(think this subject has been done to death now??? surely.....)

I expect we will soon be seeing Dave with his 6700k which apparently clocks to 4.9ghz and has 46 PCI-E Lanes (16 from the CPU and 30!! from the chipset)

[at least one of these claims is untrue and the other should be taken with a pinch of salt]

Z170 chipset has 30 PCI-E V3.0 lanes (DMI 3.0).

My samples does 4.9Ghz

I'm sure hell be along to post some screenies showing stability testing and gaming benchmark scores at this clock?

and of course superlouis who sold/ returned his 6600k to 'invest' in a 6700k after ignoring the advice he asked for on this forum (which Skylake CPU to buy - er the 6600k if you insist on buying Skylake) and who then wished to knock a whole core of his 6700k by wishing for a six threaded Skylake (like er a hyper threaded CPU with three cores then??)

a 6 threaded i7 6700k would be nice :)

Currently own a 5820k, unsteadily clocked to 4.5ghz. Its very similar to my old 4799k at 4.7Ghz. Despite what review sites tell you, a cpu upgrade such as skylake, wont make any difference to your gaming experience. Market talk. I came from a 4790k @4.7ghz so I've got a bit of an idea.:)

Long story short - pure gaming get a 6600/6700k if u can
Agreed mate, single card you use an i5. Dual card you go sli. Thats from a gaming point. If you do any type of content creation ala video encoding, high res photo work. Go X99 and in your leisure time you still have a very potent gaming setup.

Ive owned so many intel cpu's in the last few years, the gains for gaming are tiny. Even if you overclock. For games the choice of gpu will always make more difference.

They are down to £273 now which makes them appealing.

Not yet a bargain but much much more sensible pricing, if it sticks, it should quiet down all the skylake haters.

To me z170 motherboards is clearly more feature-rich. I much rather have usb3.1, m.2 etc etc... than empty pci-e lanes on my motherboard, for less money too.

This is getting silly now, where are people getting there (bad) information these days.....

Some x99 boards come with usb 3.1 and multiple m.2 ports!! And with those 'empty' PCI -e lanes you can add even more io and drives.

Usb 3.1 is not native to z170 (or x99) it can be added by another chip by a motherboard manufacturer

Cheap z170 boards may cost less then the cheapest x99 boards but they have less features. Look for boards with more feature parity and you will find they cost about the same!!

Even at £273 for the 6700k its still worth looking at an x99/5820k combo due to the extra cores (you'll be stuck with four on z170) and better upgrade route to broadwell -e (kabylake will be a pointless upgrade from skylake unless you intend to use an igpu)
