6870/6850 benchmarks (for real)

Looks like the AMD crowd won't be able to take the mick out of nVidias renaming any more :D

Completely different?. AFAIK (Though may be wrong) they've introduced a new naming scheme?
Which means they could have the 6770 which replaces the 5670 (Logically a kind of redesigned 5770)

Nah, to be fair it's just a rename which isn't cool at at all. They could have at least just left it as a 5 series card and not bothered with a 6 series in this segment.

Not different, they are taking the 5770 and re branding it as a 6770.

I'll wait till launch and it's all "official".
But given they're making the 6XXX a hybrid, I don't see how.

If it turns out to be true, then my opinion is that of the bolded.

The rest of the 6000 series cards are meant to be these Evergreen/SI hybrids (NI), but the HD6850 and 6870 are meant to be an exception, being rebranded 5 series cards (so still Evergreen).

Anyone like to bet against any 6xxx card at a given price being slower than the current 5xxx card at that price? ;) I'll take whatever is the fastest card at £200, my bet is it will be a 6xxx card...

Which has yet to be confirmed.

Jesus was is it with some of you? Random people who you don't know and never met and call themselves journalists upload a story onto the web and you treated like it's gospel.

if it bothers you so much, then dont read the thread...

He is right though, the majority of people will see numbers without any concrete evidence and then either throw a strop as it's not up to their expectations or ooze pre-come because they're that excited.

Looks to me like this is a typical NVdia themed re-badge. I'm just waiting for the price of 5850's to go down so I can go X-Fire. :D

No strop here... just wanted info on the 6970 ^^ I'm not surprised about ati's rebranding. it was going to happen eventually.

Given the success of the 5 series can you blame them? With XFX leaving NVidia I would assume that they would market the 6 series like crazy.

Blargh. Yes. See, so confusing and UNNECESSARY. Yes ATI, i'm looking at you.

Who now? :p To be fair, the rebranding stuff is only rumour at the moment, if we're gonna condemn them at least wait until we know it's fo' reals. If they are straight rebranding though, there's no excuses. The Mobile 5870 really got on my nerves because it was basically a 5770 being portrayed as a 5870, I couldn't see any problem with them just calling it what it was, a 5770.

How can anyone think this is confusing at all. There is a gap in the 5 series line up that needs filling, what were amd meant to do. If they move the 6770 and 6750 as people want to call them up a price bracket what do they then call the card where the 5770 is now. They would have to call it 6670 off course and then the same again for the next price bracket down.

Everybody knows the higher the number the better so should ati market there cards with higher numbers or lower numbers. For all the rebranding nonsense going on at the moment all the evidence on that is just one table that could have came from anywhere so lets wait and see before we start going on about amd following the same practises of nvidia. If the 5770 is rebranded its not such a big deal if the price is right and it still beats out nvidias card at around the same price.

I think people have to remember that the 5770 as it stands now is a better card than the nvidia gts450 which is the card it will be competing with. I can see why amd might just rebrand the 5770 but i also think it makes just as much sense to make a new card thats a little faster and cheaper to make.

Another thread where people post bull**** about prices and show how little they can figure out themselves *grabs popcorn*

Oh, and my face when I read some of the posts (just the first page, can't be bothered to read the rest):

Benchmarks are just benchmarks, we already know what targets have AMD set for 6000, estimating performance isn't that hard either.
