yeah thats sweet... i think that ones a x8 x8 board, very nice for the price. Im assuming b grade is customer return? actualy thkning about it it wont be any cheaper because oc =uk charge postage, meaning ill be paying more for that one than a new one,,,,,, arg, theres always a catch!

Don't take personal offence Krugga...I was referring to regular posters on here in general bitching all the time...dragging threads out.....I singled out a post of yours because you appeared to be telling the op he has to like or lump his thread carrying on.
Was going to buy that Asus Crosshair board myself but ended up buying an asus m4a79xtd evo for some reason or other.. (not usb 3 tho) (nvidia camp but don't intend to sli again) I'm sure that is gonna help you loads!! Maybe the price difference was more at the time...I know I picked the Asus board tho partly because it has solid capacitors.
Pick a board..suggested or other....google it for reviews...repeat with other boards....see if that can make your mind up...bear in mind also any advice you get from here is usually from an overclocking point of view being this is an oc forum....you don't want to be paying more for a suggested board because it has great oc potential if you don't intend to oc..else if you do....

Oh i wouldnt worry about that, I intend to overclock. I love tuning, my bike, my PC, i'd overclock my cat if I could (I just cant find much info on google or wiki about feline neural networks...) Sorry i am in a funny mood, glad some find it entertaining..
Id like to chat on here though, i work with comps so its nice to just take the dam boringness out of computing, not sure about you guys buy somtimes i get sick of hearing the same old tech spec drab day in day out... and to think ONE day i might become a pro AND get free OCUK postage (gotta wait 3 months) is a smile provoking bonus... even if it will encourage me to spend. OCUK could compete with E-buy re if they did.

The card scheme is like this:

5770---->5770
5830---->6850
5850---->6870
As you can see, there is no 6770, this is because TSMC -AMD/Radeon's manufacturing partner - couldn't produce the GPU's cheaply enough to be able to sell a 6xxx series card at the £100-£130 range. In this case, it's quite a logical decision actually: keep selling 5770, do NOT introduce a 6770 card, and rename the replacements for the 58xx series. bit-tech.net has a good analysis click here

I'm quite certain that if they indeed intended to rebrand 5770, they'd already have done it. From the recent leaks we can only assume that 5770 will be continued till Q1 2010 and then it might be replaced by 6770 or whatever they come up with.

All I can say is, the Sapphire 6870 that was going for £176.45 somewhere has now risen to £194.97.

I wanted the Sapphire version (I know there's XFX model for cheaper), but wanted to wait till today to see what prices were like. I didn't expect such a price hike, I should've bought it yesterday

I don't think i can wait any longer to buy a new card! Since i upgarded to an i7 system i've been running on an old x1950 card so i don't think i can wait any longer there's so many games i wanna play 
My monitor is 1920x1200, would a 6870 be able to run most things with decent settings or should i wait another month for the 69xx series

It depends how badly you need a card though and also your budget. I'd say it's potentially worth waiting for the 69xx cards just to see what kind of performance they bring, but at the same time the prices for other cards should be pushed a bit lower.
I'm expecting the 69xx cards to be at least £250 though.

When I ordered my sapphire 6870 there was only 3 left. They came arrived this morning.

A little further reading for the OP if they're interested, analyses the difference between 16x and 8x PCI-e (Granted for an nVidia card, there's more articles on the site including ATI cards)

With regard to your MoBo choice, Personally, I'd go for the Asus - Although I've had ASRock boards in the past for budget builds and can't fault 'em.
Worth noting, Asus motherboards have a 3-year warranty, whereas ASRock only provide 1-year.

Surely you've got a bit of experience with naming schemes, and what happens when a company wants to change its naming scheme.A 6870 at £300+ = sly, 6870 at £170 = blatantly not a 5870 upgrade. Come on, it's half the price of it pretty much. Same goes for the 6850, it's pretty close to half the price of the 5850, yet you call it sly? What about the single GPU 6900s, is that sly too? How would you propose them to implement a change in their naming scheme?
If you think about it, now is a good time as any for them to restructure their naming scheme (as they've chosen to) with them dropping "ATi" and branding their graphics cards as AMD Radeons.

Yea, I made the mistake of getting the 5970 not knowing how long it was
I had to remove 2 hdds and the hdd cage to accommodate the 5970.
Crossfire 6870 is slightly faster then 5970.
