68xx pricing

Edit: I suppose they could be called 6780 and 6790?

That would make far more sense if they really felt they had to shuffle the names on them...

I can't see the problem with sticking to the x7xx, x8xx, x9xx tiers relative to each product generation.

Looking at it, with regards to the ATI to rebranding.

I think this whole situation needs to be looked at as the big picture, these new cards being rebranded, shifted into different tiers, stamped with Radeon etc. It seems AMD just want to shift around the graphics card 'tiers' to start the new Radeon generation with shifted names. Whether it's because they felt the need to start with somthing new for the Radeon generation (a Radeon 6950/6970 etc) or just wanted to be sneaky and get people to upgrade, well only time will tell.

But AMD/ATI/Radeon haven't, to my knowledge, been that sneaky in the past so im giving the the benifit of the doubt atm and looking forward to these new Radeon cards :)

Just my 2c anyways

Im proberly going to get a 6970 or 2 depending on if they are much of an improvement over the 5 series. Ideally i want to see improvements to tessalation.

Update from techpowerup:

"An pair of early listings by a Dutch online store indicates what prices of some Radeon HD 6800 series products could look like, in that part of the world. The Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 (part number 11180-00-20R), is listed at €158.82 without taxes (€189 with it); and Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 (part number 21179-00-40R) at €214.29 w/o taxes (€255 with it). We conservatively estimate the USD pricing to look like $199 for the HD 6850, and $249 for the HD 6870, on the basis of this listing."

So I guess that means we are looking at £170/£220 price points in the UK

I hope it won't happen, that is good $25-50 premium we'd have to pay as a mark-up for EU retailers. That's before the tax

6850 $200
6870 $250

Pinches of salt on standby

Sounds quite reasonable but expect launch pricing to be a bit higher due to demand and lack of product as always.

Hold on, it's Friday and these cards are due out early next week and you're talking like you don't know what you're going to charge for these cards. :o
