Just received my 5G 7700k and not impressed with how it arrived:

Is there anything I can do to salvage this or should I send it back?

I guess there must have been a little grease or summat on the IHS that prevented the glue holding when they stuck it back on, nothing a bit of IPA and a bit more glue wouldnt fix but i agree with the others send it back and let them do it :)

I know these kind of boxes are quite standard for oem CPU's (this box looks a little longer than the last one I got) but I don't think it helps that it's been rattling around in the back of a delivery guys transit for the last 2 and a half days. The retail CPU's are held in place by a plastic cut out which seems like a much more sensible solution.

Must say I'm a little worried about trying for a replacement.

What made you get the prebinned one? You're paying nearly £150 more for a guaranteed couple of hundred mhz. Just get a retail one and chance it and then also enjoy a 3 year warranty as apposed to 1. Chances are, the retail chip may do 5GHz anyway.

Wow that's really poor workmanship. I'm surprised OCUK dont clean off the original sealant around the outside and just add blobs in the centre. If the IHS isn't put back on in exactly the same position as before it will sit further away from the die than stock.

Couple of things, not had great luck with overclocking in the past so wanted one I know would do 5GHz also I know they run hot so wanted one that would run at better temps.

Can buy the Delid-Die-Mate 2 for £25 and have ago yourself :)

Looking at the pic they probably would be better off doing themselves, however you look at it, its pretty shoddy considering this is a premium service/product, they don't even send the cpu in the right packaging, why not use the little plastic clamshell ?

I agree but to be fair they are delidded as well. Standard i7-7700Ks get rather toasty at those kinds of clocks.

With all of the dents it looks like they are using vice and mallet method to delid, why not just use the delidding tool?

I don't think those are dents, if you enlarge the pic it looks like random bits of TIM, there's some of it squished in the top right hand corner of the box as well.
