What are you cooling it with? The 4.8 is the same as 4.9 so ignore that part. It could be that it has been in the delidded pile instead of to be delidded which is an easy mistake but would be the 3rd time if it happening.

Give our RMA team a call guys. 8Pack's priority with these chips is to offer top performance in hand with quality for customer satisfaction so I'm sure he'd like to get these back to look at for you.

Definitely a shame to see after so many went out with zero issues but we're always here to rectify any problems with products that do appear :)

I mentioned it the day it arrived staff didn't seem interested told me there must have been a problem with the pen that wrote on the box lol

I actually thought these would "all" be spot on after all the 8pack hype on the site saying he has personally done these.. I seriously doubt that after seeing this thread.

Humans make errors though? And he personally clocks them all prior to them being delidded. The technician team at OcUK do the delidding and packing part, not 8-Pack who would be busy binning other chips and building is 8-Pack rigs. Yep the response you got certainly doesn't seem great. I wonder if it is because they thought the only real issue was the 4.9GHz saying 4.8GHz which I hope has been cleared up.

There are issues with now 2 in a month appearing to not have been delidded when they thought they were and one arriving with the IHS off because of the sub par packaging that although may not actually cause damage in the post by being loose can cause things like was shown to happen. I would not be purchasing one based on the packaging alone considering the cost that it has in relation to the product and OcUK bottom line. Add in the fact they don't clean it up properly when it has been delidded which although likely makes no difference to performance is not what is expected of a premium product just adds to the things.

Cheers NegatronBear for popping into this thread though and hope the guys affected get it all sorted.

After delidding at stock with a reasonable cooler (Noctua NH-D15) you should be around 5-10 degree over ambient temps at idle.

It is things like Prime95 would often cause lockup with temps hitting 90+ degree with air cooling (80-85 AIO) before delid but only be 60 degree after delid whilst at a 5.0GHz overlcock

So the fact you are seeing temps as high as they should be if not greater when at full load certainly suggests the IHS is not seated properly.

edit: Above edited for clarity.

The monster of a CPU the Celeron G3900 is in my rig now, popping down to DPD to drop off the CPU for RMA.

To be fair for 35 quid it's not bad at all.

OK arranged RMA thanks very much NegatronBear.

Hopefully I will get one that's been done by a professional next time :/ will chuck up some photos of what arrives.

Just return it I will check it here.

It's very easy to say that but having to do all this messing about is a total pain...The OP's delided delid is a shocking way of doing it, I doubt anyone would buy them knowing that they're done like that and i hope this isn't how they are all done.

Here is my temps from battlefield 1 notice my CPU load is only 47% at this point (always around 50%)

Hmm I ordered one of the 4.9 chips for the convenience of having it already delidded, won't get a system setup for a week or so to know if it's going to be ok but this thread isn't filling me with confidence :)

I've been out the game for a while, what's a good way to test things, run something like a handbrake encode and monitor the core temps?

To be fair your GPU temp is pretty high are you sure you're getting the air thought the case and out?

I don't get all the 'shocking way of doing it' chat - looks perfectly fine to me, if you used CLU you would know it looks like that. The only issue appears to be the black gasket seal hasn't held hence it arrived in bits. Granted the packaging wasn't up to standard but nothing looks out of sorts with the actual delid.
