7800xt or 7900xt

Is it a waste of money buying the 7900xt over the 7800xt. It’s going with the 9800x3d, gaming only likes of wow and Battlefield. It’s for Christmas so buying today.
Thank for any advice.

Depends on what screen you are trying to drive. Both would be overkill for a low refresh rate 1080p screen for example.

more fps is always better

as someone who has owned a 3080 (7800xt equivalent) and currently a 7900xt, the 7900xt is worth the bump

That could be 4 months away, plus as he's said it's for Christmas. 7900XT can be found for £550/600 so they're a v good deal at that.

I mean if it's BF:V, each of those will play that at 120FPS+ at 4k so think you'd be fine with either.

Might be some 7900 GRE deals kicking about for a middle ground?

I think the 7900 will definitely net you some extra frames. You might want to check some specific benchmarks for the games you are going play to decide whether it's worth it for you.
