7950 lovin and OC's thread

Still can't get above 1.3v even with trixx 4.1 :( oh well I finished my bracket today and got my copper shim through the post so will be fitting the antec over the weekend, then I will be gunning for the top 7950 spot, some really good scores by pie man though :)
7950 is really close to the 7970 at the same clocks

I'm hoping to be able to run 1200 or 1250 core 24/7 if the water cooler mod works well.

You'll want to watch the voltage running 24/7 that high mate, its not heat that kills a card, but excessive voltage.

Hi I have a quick question, sorry if its already been answered but I didnt see it. I have a HIS HD7950 and when the monitor goes into standby the cards fan seems to randomly ramp up and down in speed. I've seen this issue mentioned before but no fix and I thought there might be a bios update out to fix the issue but it hasnt appeared. Does anyone know a fix for this?

No idea but sometimes when my card boots I get my screen power down and an error saying cant display 1920x1200@60Hz, I turn the screen off and on again and it's fine. Related possibly? There was some fixes to these errors apparently in 12.6betas which are out now so have you tried those?

Also any idea of Max voltage through these things anyone? I see Pieman you have 1.3v successful heaven runs.

I am not going to overclock, but just chiming into say.. what an amazing card. I got it on a special here and its blowing my mind with what its doing on BF3..

Are there any other games to make this puppy shine? I got the VTX 7950

Work of.warning to everyone, be careful flashing the bios to the Asus bios that gibbons used in the overclocking preview. Mine flashed OK but after it reinstalled driver it gave me a nice black screen. Thank god for dual bioses. Will try and blind flash later.

Still stuck at 1.3v maximum :(

1275/1600 with 1.3v

I guess sandy bridge must be hurting me a little :(

Will get a more powerful fan for the cooler and try for 1300+ later. Had a few artifacts at 1275 core.

Bah well, I braved 1300mV and it doesn't like it. Crashes within first 10secs on Heaven. Still impressed it runs 1200core at 1175mV though and breaks 2100 score :D

Just scored 2211 points at 1274/1750, getting close to the max this card has got I think. Getting a 38mm fan for the antec 620 this week which will help but I might have to RMA it if I cant suss out this rattling noise its making. If only I could push a little more than 1.3v I think 1300MHz would be possible with this card. best £250 I have ever spent apart from when I went to Amsterdam :D

I just got this.. thoroughly surprised. Have I ran as stock, dunno if I have missed something..

On my stock card got 2041, but with 1020/1575 got this;

What temperatures are all of your 7950s idling at?
I am concerned that 49C at idle is too hot... any ideas guys?

I fixed the fan speed to 38% to stop it ramping up too much & that normally gives me an idle temperature of 36c and anything up to 80c under load. What case have you got and what's the airflow like? Is your CPU overclocked?

No overclocking on the CPU, and the case is pretty much empty.

Here is speed fan with the temps:

The fan is at 33% wonder if that could be something..

Just checked my temps after lots of benchmarking and my lowest temp is 29 degrees which I suppose is the idle temp.
Gotta say that reading this thread over the last few days got me to start playing about with my overclocks and the results are really impressive.

Very linear increases with adding 20% to the oc giving me 20% added value to Heaven results at a max temp of 73 degrees on auto (1150 core 1600 mem 1200mv).

Just increasing my voltage from 1100mv to 1200mv has given some great gains (my default voltage is 1043mv on a Powercolor PCS+).

Just going to try one final run at 1200 core 1600 mem.
