7970/50 Arctic Accelero Users

Could I cover them up with the provided insulation strips instead? If I place them vertically that should be fine right?

You could to be safe, but I held a plastic CD sleeve in between on assembly as to make sure there was zero contact with those two chips with any heatsinks.

You could possibly swap your whole 7970 heatsink(minus the shroud), with some nice person that still has two of the original 5870 AC Extreme's and the 3 heatsinks in the pic above though for a 100% perfect fit onto your 5870, as the heatsinks on the 7970 are god awful rotten in comparison with the older 5870 Extreme supplied heatsinks.;):D

Oh btw i took my accelero apart for the final time today to refit the vrm sinks again. I recommend the three L shaped sinks you use on the right vrms should cover 3 metal plate vrms each. This ensures even distribution. Otherwise you end up using 4 metal plate vrms on 2 of the L shaped sinks and 2 on the final one. 3+3+3 works out about 5c better than 4+4+2. Does that make sense?

You could be onto something here matt, could be an earner in it!;)

Modded AC and the massive Alpenfohn vrm sink, jobs a good un and no more vrm worries FTW, just surprised no one else has done it tbph.

Yeah im gonna have to get one. I will end up buying a new accelero when i get a new gpu as ive fiddled with this one so much its old before its time. :D

Well, I don't live anywhere remotely close to a place I could get these, so I could buy them directly for AC but I don't really want to wait another two weeks for them to arrive.
Although, seeing as a lot of people here complain about the G1 (that came with the AX7970 I just got), I'm thinking to wait those two weeks and order
the permanent adhesive from AC (and the 5870 sinks maybe).
Would the permanent adhesive work much better for the 5870 as well

I used the little white tube glue (permanent glue) that came with the cooler.

GPU @ 1050.
Mem @ 1500.
VDDC @ 1.2ish V.

This is the AMD bios (1GHz) upgrade stock settings.

Using TRIXX to adjust the fan profile to ramp up the fans from 20% as soon as the GPU hits >30 'c all the way to 100% if the GPU hits 80'c.
