You'll need more than a 1000rpm to do a good job mate :)

Personally, I found that the 120mm pro pwm versions of those to be relatively poor on a K2 and quite loud at over a 1000rpm.

ED: The 140 pro spectre's may be ok, however, I didn't get very good results with a pair of Thermalright TY-140's on the Peter and the Spectres are nowhere near as good as those...

And my Cooler has arrived! That amazon supplier (£51) is actually based in Germany but it only took 4days to get here via UPS.

My only question is: I have the updated thermal adhesive. It says it takes 1 hr to go off. Is that accurate or should I wait overnight (like the previous paste)?

I've just completely rebuilt my system today. Wiring and everything. I've even added a couple of ghetto fan positions to my case. I've screwed and cable tied a 1850 GT about 4 inches away from my accelero blowing directly onto the vrms and ive cable tied a 150cfm bitfenix spectre led fan onto the side mesh of my 600t to exhaust the warm air from the gpu. Once i've got windows fully reinstalled and updated ill see what difference its made.

My cooler has just arrived today along with some Akasa Thermal Adhesive tape. Which would you guys recommend using? Akasa vs G1? Ive read through the 1st 20pages of this thread and it was mostly filled with LTmatt wanting G1 :) Im guessing thats the best option, although im not quite as anal with temps. More noise with me

G1 beats tape all day long. However the permanent adhesive beats g1. If you want my two cents use G1 on the dram chips and use permanent adhesive on the vrm's for a better hold.

Now fitted, all l get to hear is coil whine :) bit naughty of me though just used thermal pads :) will see how it goes, VRM1 @ 70 VRM2 @ 91 after a run of 3DMark11 :) Core @ 60 :)

And it evens fits into a Fractal refine mini, quite snug however no need to try and support it as it rests a little on the lower HDD cage :)

Hey guys, I bought this cooler for my HD5870 whose fan is dying and as a result
its' noise is unbearable.
It's supposed to fit on a reference HD5870, like mine, but I am not sure where to place the VRM/RAM heatsinks and which of the sinks to place there.
I'd really appreciate it if someone could show me what sinks to place and where on the reference HD5870 PCB? Also, where do I place the insulation strips?

Quick question about the G1 glue when i mix it for 5 minutes do i leave it for 15minutes and use it or do i have 15minutes to fit it? Ive heard both versions, which is true?
Tempted to just use the Akasa thermal pads.

Thermal pads wouldnt if caused coil whine surely?
Id be happy with them temps, maybe a bit lower on the VRM.
Whats your overclock?

That stuff takes 5+hrs to set, so I reckon it's the former ;)

Coils cause coil whine. He can hear it now because his cooler's a lot quieter.
I had the same thing when I went to watercooling. Minor case here though.

Coil whine only present as card is now silent.
Only running at 1050/1500.
Aye will see how the temps are over the next week.

I had a 5870 Extreme thread, all but one pic is dead though:

You are sooo lucky, I still have the pics, this was using the original 5870 Extreme heatsinks:

***IMPORTANT***cover up the yellow boxes with a plastic CD sleeve or similar when mounting heatsinks or your card WILL die on contact with a heatsink.

Obviously fill up the vrams with heatsinks, the big vrm sink to the right you won't have, just fill up the vrms under the yellow lines with some from the extreme.

We should email arctic and ask them for a custom Accelero VRM heatsink kit to be made... This is ridiculous. Good news is powercolor is sending me a working 7970 back (yes, i feel bad for the bait and switch, it's dirty - no need to rub it in).

The ones they ship with this unit are total trash and it's a pity all reviewers care about is core temp, ignoring something as important as VRMs. So many dead cards over this stuff.. I paid $100 for this cooler (enough to buy a D14 or waterblock lol) and it gives me worse VRM temps then the stock cooler which blows... i mean look at the heatsinks on the card above!
