7970 Lightning, worth the premium?

Yeah I kinda wish I waited a month or so more before upgrading (and getting more funds) and going the X79 route.

Ah well - I don't have particularly bad performance or anything :p

Bah Msi cs isn't making much sense they want me to phone the UK office that's states they don't deal with components. Might ask ocuk cs if they have any Msi contacts I can get in touch with.

No i can't sorry

Overclockers raised an RMA on the card for a replacement so i just packed it away now and i'm going to send it off soon and hopefully find out if it's faulty after all.

Anyone have an experience with replacing goods with overclockers?

I'll give him a shout later - thanks

Ocuk rma is one of the best, faulty goods I returned had replacements sent out same day.

haha why did you need to contact msi cs anyway?

also i just paid £25 to post this card back. I am not a happy bunny right about now.

Mainly to get a rough idea of voltage limits with watercooling, also wouldn't mind a play with afterburner extreme

Well thats an email sent to the MSI rep, just hope I get a reply as I can see my self going round in circles even more with their CS.

Unless you get AB ex 1350 is gonna be your limit isn't it?? How do ya get it anyway, do you have to sign something to say your not gonna rma your card if you fry it.

You seem to have been in a similar boat I was, my Lightning card was hitting 95/100 on stock settings. I tried to post it back but because the box + contents were over 2KG the post office wanted £25 for it, OCUK would only cover up to £12.50 on postage so I sent it uninsured...

Nearly 3 weeks later and I still haven't actually received a refund for my postage...

Yes afaik even unlocked afterburner will cap out at 1350mv, extreme is capped to 1800mv. I was told you need to apply with Msi for a copy, in return you are not to redistribute it as your name is attached to the copy, if you do distribute it Msi will no longer give you any updates or assistance.

Not 100% on the warranty, as with all overclocking strictly speaking they can't proove that you fried the card with high voltages, but it is the reason I want some voltage assurance from Msi. They do pride them selves on having lightning cards being the fastest in many benchmarks so hopeful they will want to assist in getting some of these to the top of ocuk's charts :D

The post office charges are starting to get silly.

Couriers seem to do much better prices and will come and pick it up from you.

It's a joke, I had the card for 7 days which i rarely got to use because i was too busy benchmarking everything. My card hit 100C and i'm pretty sure it could have gone further at 1.15v... with +20% power and +0 aux.

£450 GPU yet i have to wait 5-7 days for them to test it> Left without a functioning GPU for 2 weeks+.

Regarding the postage costs I will be making sure i get my £12.50 as it clearly states the shipping weight of the item is 4lbs which is under 2kg. I didn't weight the item myself because not only did i find it's shipping weight online but i used the exact box it was posted to me in and that stated 2kg. Not cool.

I should have marked the card somewhere just so i know whether they send me back the same card.

If any of you guys haven't seen this already:

Could you not have just returned it under DSR? I know it would have cost you a little more overall but would have got an instant refund.
